He narrowly missed out on becoming King of The Jungle last week, but hopefully that won’t diminish Mike Tindall’s love of Disney classic The Lion King.
According to childhood friend and actress Katherine Kelly, the former rugby player has been obsessed with the film ever since he was a kid.
Katherine discussed their idyllic childhood in Yorkshire alongside a never-before-seen photograph of her and the sportsman at fancy dress party.
In the caption, she joked: “I’ve known him since he had hair!”
The soap star then went on to reveal that Mike was destined for the I’m A Celeb jungle due to his love of the film.
She quipped: “We watched The Lion King relentlessly at his house as kids, I should have seen this coming…”
The actress then wrote “Mike for King of the Jungle” followed by a Lion and crown emoji.
Despite not taking the crown, the would-be royal looked suitably regal in the photograph which was uploaded on Saturday.
Sporting a burgundy velvet suit, top hair and bow tie, it seems Mike seems to have been preparing for his duty as husband to King Charles III’s niece, Zara Phillips.
Whilst it’s unclear what the theme of the party was due to the pair’s vastly contrasting outfits, Katherine also looks equally glamorous in her costume.
Wearing a turquoise buster, long gold earrings and a large pink feather in her hair, the actress appears to be dressed as a Wild West character.
She even made light of the unusual accessory, writing: “….Yes that’s a feather sticking out of my head. Yes, it was a fancy dress party, not a night out on Wakey Westgate)”
She also teased Mike, who is famously bald, writing: “(Yes he has hair under that hat….”
The childhood friends have clearly remained close and have shared a number of drinks since that night – including earlier this year in April.
However, many will wonder if that was the night Mike Tindall began his crazy dancing – which he laughed about during his time in the jungle.
The former rugby captain even admitted to ripping his trousers in front of his mother-in-law, Princess Anne, after a particularly boozy night.
Whilst Mike may have caused a little embarrassment for the Royal family with his jungle admission, others said it would have been far worse if Mike had been crowned King of The Jungle.
One fan, wrote: “Imagine a relation of the monarchy being voted King. I’d say Charles is kicking himself. Main thing it wasn’t Matt…”
Meanwhile, friends and family of Katherine also added their own stories about Mike Tindall.
One user wrote: “My husband was at school with at QEGS. Only nice things to say about him….Such a lovely bloke. X”
