Paloma Faith was forced to clarify some cheeky X-rated comments made in a recent interview…after a call from her mum.
The Only Love Can Hurt Like This singer bared all about motherhood, fame, and masturbation, of course, in an interview with the Guardian, which seemingly had her mum on the phone not long after it was published.
At one point in the chat, Paloma – who welcomed her second baby with partner Leyman Lahcine in February – mused on her wish to be a ‘milf’ (AKA ‘Mum I’d Like To F**k) rather than a self-proclaimed ‘middle-aged mum’.
She reflected on how social media users would comment things like ‘I think she’s hot, but it’s my guilty pleasure’, telling the publication: ‘What are you guilty about? Is it bad to fancy someone’s mum?’
Referencing her age and how she wants to be seen, Paloma told journalist Eva Wiseman: ‘Eventually they stopped talking about my age in articles, but then I had kids and it’s back. Because now I’m 40, I’m a “middle-aged mum”. Instead of a Milf, which, of course, is what I really want to be.
‘I mean, I don’t want to sound desperate, Eva, but all I really want right now is for teenage boys to masturbate over my image.’
It was seemingly that line that caught her mum’s attention, with Paloma taking to social media on Sunday evening to issue a hilarious disclaimer.
In a nutshell: it was a joke, everyone.
She wrote: ‘My mum is very concerned and embarrassed that my humor is not understood so I would like to publically state that the masturbation comment was a joke and you should all be very discreet about your masturbation choices (ahem sorry mum) ha! [sic]’
Elsewhere in her interview, the superstar, who is about to tour her latest album Infinite Things, remarked about the graft she’s put into her career but conceded the Covid pandemic and ensuing lockdown gave her the much-needed break she believed helped her have her second baby after several heartbreaking miscarriages.
On reflection, she feels she might not be the only star to have benefitted from such an enforced break…
She said: ‘I genuinely think that women in my industry, including me, have been working so hard, they haven’t been able to conceive. I know I couldn’t – I miscarried a lot.
‘And then everyone got pregnant during the lockdown. I think they had a bit more calm in their lives, a bit more time to have sex, a bit less stress. Jessie Ware, the Little Mix girls, Ellie Goulding – is that a coincidence? I doubt it.’
