Peter Gabriel recently shared “Panopticom,” the lead single from his upcoming album i/o.
David Rhodes (guitar), Tony Levin (bass), and Manu Katché provided the orchestra and backing vocals, while Brian Eno played synthesizer for the song, written and produced by Gabriel.
“The first song is based on an idea I have been working on to initiate the creation of an infinitely expandable accessible data globe: The Panopticom,” Gabriel said in a statement. “We are beginning to connect a like-minded group of people who might be able to bring this to life, to allow the world to see itself better and understand more of what’s really going on.”
Beginning with the release of “Panopticom,” Gabriel will unveil one song from the alum on each full moon of 2023, accompanied by a specific piece of art.
i/o marks the 72-year-old English musician’s first album of original material in more than two decades.
Gabriel is set to embark on a 22-date “The i/o Tour” across the U.K. and Europe in support of the album in May.
