Prince William and Kate Middleton have been seen for the first time since the funeral of the Duke of Cambridge's grandfather Prince Philip.

The couple — who will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary next week — joined other members of the Royal family, including William's brother Prince Harry, to celebrate the life of the 99 year old, who passed away on 9 April.

Now, William, 38, and Kate, 39, have stepped out on The Queen's 95th birthday as they visited the Air Cadets in East London – staying true to the Duke of Cambridge's words in his touching tribute to his late grandfather, as he said he would want them to "get on with the job".

Kate and William were given special permission from The Queen to attend the event on Wednesday 21 April during the royal mourning period to honour the late Duke of Edinburgh.

As always, Kate cut a stylish figure as she wore a black double breasted Dolce and Gabbana coat with gold buttons down the front, which she paired with a pair of suede black court heels.

She previously wore the knee-length military-style coat on Remembrance Sunday in 2017.

William looked just as smart, opting for a dark navy blue and black check suit with a white shirt and black tie as he stood alongside his beloved wife.

Royal couple Kate and William visited the 282 East Ham Squadron Air Training Corps, a visit which was carried out in honour of Prince Philip, who was Honorary Air Commodore-in-Chief of the squadron for 63 years before Kate took over as Commandant-in-Chief in 2015.

The visit also falls on the Queen's 95th birthday, which is the first birthday Queen Elizabeth has seen in without her husband Philip by her side since 1947.

During the appearance, Kate was guided through a flight on a flight simulator, called Grob Tutor, which is used by the RAF for training.

Kate and husband William also witnessed three cheers from the Air Cadets to honour Prince Philip during the visit.

The couple also chatted with people taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, a scheme successfully set up by Prince Philip in 1956.

As well as Kate's ties to the RAF, Prince William is a trained pilot. The Duke of Cambridge served as a full-time pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance from 2015 to 2017.

The official appearance comes after Kate was spotted shopping with her eldest children Prince George, seven, and Princess Charlotte, five, in the West End of London.

A Twitter user who works at an unspecified King's Road store has revealed that her colleagues reportedly witnessed the Duchess of Cambridge with her two eldest children – and claimed the Duchess gave them a budget to buy their own things.

The tweet, from a user called Alexa, read: "I've always been a Kate Middleton fan… today she was in one of my stores on the Kings Road with George and Charlotte, what the team told me about how she was with them and how the kids were with each other makes me like her even more!"

When asked for more information, the shop worker followed up with more details, claiming: "I wasn't there but she talked to my team, the kids had a budget that they stuck to and paid for their own things with their own money.

"Just normal well brought up children and a normal parent trying to do the right thing and that's just lovely."

It is believed that Kate and her sister-in-law Meghan Markle "both played peacemaker" before their husbands Princes William and Harry reunited at Prince Philip's funeral.

The funeral saw Harry, 36, coming face to face with the Royal family for the first time since he and Meghan, 39, sat down for an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Prior to the emotional day, a source told new magazine: "Kate has been instrumental in playing peacemaker with them as Harry landed in the UK, was keen for them to speak and meet beforehand.

"She's always had a close bond with Harry and would love a resolution. Meghan wants the feud to be healed too.

"Especially with another baby on the way. They both want what's best for the families and both tried to play peacemaker at the start of the tension."
