Sarah Ferguson admitted that she couldn’t “have it both ways” and attend the upcoming Coronation following her 1996 divorce from disgraced royal Prince Andrew.
The Coronation of King Charles and the Queen Consort, Camilla, is now just two weeks away, and after much speculation, it was confirmed that Prince Harry would be in attendance as Meghan Markle stays in the US with their kids.
Fergie, who married The Queen’s second eldest in 1986, will not be attending the massive event but doesn’t seem too cut up about the revelation.
The Duchess of York, 63, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Thursday to discuss the upcoming procedures and her omission from the plans.
Ironically, the two corgis that Sarah adopted following the Queen’s death will be allowed to go.
When host Kate Garraway questioned if she is going to the event, Sarah explained: “No, I’m not actually. It’s a state occasion. Being divorced I don’t think you can have it both ways.”
Sarah took the time to state that she is excited to be moving on from her royal life and having a new career as a novelist.
“The great thing about this time is the unity of family, I think that Charles and Camilla are doing an exceptional job at unifying the family," she added. “In private I can be there."
While appearing on ITV’s Loose Women to promote her upcoming romance novel, Most Intriguing Lady, Sarah revealed that she wasn’t expecting an invite at all.
She said: "I personally will be having a little tea room and coronation chicken sandwich and putting out the bunting, that’s what I’m going to be doing.
"I also love to watch it on telly because you hear a lot on telly, the commentators' are always good and then everyone, all the family come back."
"You can’t have it both ways, you can’t be divorced and then say, ‘I want this…’ [You’re in] or you’re out,” she added.
Speaking to OK at the London Book Fair event, the Duchess further opened up about her own Coronation plans, which are relatively subdued when you think of the grandeur of the main event.
"I will definitely be watching it on television and will be championing it from there. I'll be watching with the Corgis [Muick and Sandy] who will be up there barking away,” she said.

While Sarah won’t be making a balcony appearance or making the star-studded photographs of the nation’s elite, she has received an invite to King Charles’ exclusive VIP event.
The concert is set to go ahead on May 7, one day after the crown meets Charles’ head, and will include performances from Take That, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry.
"She cherishes those more relaxed times with the family and, contrary to some reports, is fully accepting of the situation,” a source told The Sun.
“She did, of course, join the family for the Sandringham Christmas celebrations, so it’s clear there is no ill will in either direction. Quite the contrary."
