It was a risque routine seared into the memories of TV viewers of a certain age.
So it stands to reason that the short frocks revealed halfway through Bucks Fizz’s 1981 performance of Making Your Mind Up are the most memorable Eurovision costumes ever, according to a poll.
Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston’s cheeky outfits – uncovered mid-song by male singers Mike Nolan and Bobby G when they ripped off their longer skirts – were cited by 77 per cent of those polled.
And the move seems to have paid off as Bucks Fizz won the contest for the UK at the Dublin final in 1981. As Liverpool prepares to host the 67th Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine, easyJet asked 2,000 people which outfits they recalled most from over the decades.
Runners-up with 73 per cent were ABBA, who took to the stage in futuristic satin and suede outfits as they won the 1974 contest for Sweden with Waterloo.

Lead singer Agnetha Faltskog stole the show as she donned blue cropped flares with a matching jacket and hat and knee-high silver platform boots.

The comical pair finished 19th performing ‘Waterline’ in Baku, Azerbaijan in their bizarre silver and gold gem-encrusted suits.
Olivia Newton-John is fourth with 35 per cent for her long flowing baby-blue chiffon dress as she performed Long Live Love for the UK in 1974 – four years before movie Grease hit the big screen.
Finland’s Lordi, who in 2006 became the first rock group to win Eurovision with their song Hard Rock Hallelujah were sixth with 26 per cent for their gruesome skull, skeletons and zombie looks.
Bucks Fizz also top the poll for the best ever performance, cited by 67 per cent, ahead of ABBA’s Waterloo (64 per cent).
Sam Ryder is third with 58 per cent for his performance of Space Man, which was runner-up for the UK behind Kalush Orchestra’s Stefania for Ukraine last year.

Nearly two thirds – 63 per cent – say that they are more excited about the Eurovision this year because it is taking place in the UK.
Almost half – 48 per cent – say that the outrageous, kitsch costumes on show entertain them even more than the music.
And Bucks Fizz-inspired costumes are the favourite fancy dress outfits for those planning to attend Eurovision parties.
To celebrate the Eurovision, crew from easyJet’s Liverpool John Lennon Airport base recreated the outfits of Bucks Fizz, ABBA, Jedward and Ruslana.
The airline, which is a national sponsor of Eurovision, is offering 20 per cent off selected flights until May 15.

‘Our crew couldn’t resist the opportunity to celebrate the competition in our own way – taking to the runway in the most iconic Eurovision looks of all time.’
