HBO has released an official trailer for an upcoming documentary about Tina Turner, in which the iconic singer opens up about her “abusive life.”
Tina, which tells the story of the 81-year-old superstar’s life and lengthy career, features vintage performance footage, including some never-before-seen film, audio tapes and personal photos.
Tina was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside her abusive husband and band-mate Ike Turner in 1991.
“Look what I have done in this lifetime with this body of a girl from a cotton field that proved myself above what was not taught to me,” she says in the trailer.
“I started really seeing that I had to make a change. Divorce, I got nothing. No money, no house. So I said, I’ll just take my name,” Turner added.
“It hurts to have to remember those times, but at a certain stage, forgiveness takes over,” she says in a voice-over, referring to the years of abuse by her late husband.
Directed by Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin, the documentary premieres on HBO on March 27.
