Wild theory about The Masked Singer Australia will completely change how you watch the show

The Masked Singer has seemingly been rumbled by one investigative fan.

Originating in South Korea eight years ago, the internationally-sold format features a line-up of celebrities from across TV, film, sport and music under wacky costumes, singing infront of judges – and a studio audience – who must guess their identities.

Joel Dommett presents the UK version, which saw Busted's Charlie Simpson walk away with the top prize this year, while Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Rita Ora stand are regular judges.

Over on TikTok, though, comedy writer Mason Hell-Cat revealed to the world his theory surrounding his native Australian show.

"OK so here's something that I've only just worked out about The Masked Singer. Now, perhaps everybody knows this but I've only just worked it out: so all of the reveals are not filmed in front of a live audience, and the main reason is they don't want audience members to give spoilers away," he told the camera.

"Fair enough, great, but this is the other thing: instead, they film all of the reveals, every single one of them, every single Masked Singer, they film all of them at the start of the show before it's even gone to air. They have them in the bank."

The TikTok-er's revelation continued: "Then the celebs, they go in a sound booth and they record their songs. The songs are then just played each week and there's somebody inside the suit dancing around on stage – it's not the celeb inside the suit, it's not, and then depending on who [the producers] want to reveal that week, they just play the tape. They just play the tape of the reveal, d'ya get it?"

Apparently, this results in approximately two hours' worth of work for the famous participant, so The Masked Singer isn't much of a commitment at all.

"Of course they're not putting in hours and hours and hours, because imagine how much money that would cost [the broadcaster]. They put in two hours, they record their songs in a sound booth over an hour, they record their reveal – half an hour. Boom, that's all they need to do."

He also claimed that those celeb-in-the-supermarket VT's are just another hoodwink.

"All of those added bits, the bits where you see the masked person at the supermarket or wherever… that's not the celebrity! Of course it's not."

Although impassioned, Mason's theory wasn't fully accepted in the comment area.

Shooting him down, one individual replied: "I was in the audience last season and although this is a great theory, it's incorrect".

A second fan of The Masked Singer went on to ask him: "Does that mean the judges know who they are?", to which Mason directly responded: "In my theory yes they know who they are (after they film their stock at reveal) and all their guesses are scripted".

Two more users did seem to buy into his suggestions, though, pointing out: "That actually makes logical sense to be fair" and "It's true, otherwise people would see them come in each week".

OK! approached ITV for comment on the theory.
