LET'S be honest – are you even a small business owner if a cheeky customer hasn't tried to bag some freebies off you at some point?
But while most people have the good sense to come up with a plausible back-story to try and pull the wool over the company's eyes, the same can't be said for this woman.
In November 2021, Amani Zubair – who owns Lord Sugar-backed jewellery business Tresor – sent out an order for a £26 18-carat gold-plated signet ring.
But a few days later, the customer got in touch to say that the package which arrived had been empty.
Naturally, this raised Amani's suspicions – but they initially suspected that something might have happened to it in transit.
The 20-year-old explained: "That's not a mistake we'd make, especially if there was only one thing in the order'.

"We thought it might have fallen out, so we asked her to show us the packaging."
Hoping she was going to get a refund, the customer happily sent over a photo of her alleged "empty" parcel – and that's how Amani caught her out in the lie.

She continued: "We received receive a picture of her hand holding the packaging bag, and she's got the ring on her finger. It was one of our designs so we knew it was ours."
Trying to be as polite as possible, Amani then pointed out the ring in the photo – and was immediately blocked. Awkward.
She added: "We were just like 'What? Is that not the ring on your finger?', and that's when our emails stopped going through.
"We were so confused on how to respond. We didn't want to be horrible to a customer, but there was also nothing else we could really say.
"I think she was trying to get a free ring out of us. It happened in November but we still laugh about it now."

After posting about the exchange on TikTok, Amani's videos racked up over 12,000 views – and unimpressed viewers all said the same thing.
One replied: "If you're gonna lie and try to be a thief, at least put some effort in."
Another added: "Girl couldn't even take the ring off before attempting a scam."
Meanwhile, a third wrote: "No they didn’t have the rings on in the pic they sent!! STOP IT that’s too funny."
Although this particular attempt at a freebie failed, Amani admits that others have attempted to pull one over her.
Amani said: "It happens quite a lot, we'll have people say 'the package hasn't turned up', even though the tracking says it has.
"Sometimes we do get stuff wrong, because we're only human, but we have noticed a lot of people trying to get a refund or a free ring sent out.

"We'll ask for their details and when we check the details, they'll be fake.
"They never actually ordered anything, and they obviously just thought to message to try and get a free ring."
