THERE are so many cleaning tips online it can be difficult to know which ones to listen to.
Luckily, a laundry expert took to TikTok to reveal five things you should never do if you want your clothes to actually last.
Taking to TikTok, Consumer Report's tech engineer and laundry expert, Rich Handel revealed the five things you should never do when washing your clothes.
He revealed he would never use fabric softener, claiming it was a waste of money.
He added: "Not only can it irritate sensitive skin, it can leave a layer of residue on your clothes and reduce the absorption of your towels."
The laundry expert also said you should never stirp your laundry in the bath.

He explained that you can get the exact same results using a washing machine.
While you may have thought putting in more detergent would make sure your clothes come out clean, he revealed it does more harm than good.

He added: "Using too much can leave a residue on your clothes and your machine."
He also recommended never putting stained clothing in the dryer until you now for sure the stain is out.

The laundry expert shared the heat from the dryer will set the stain, making it impossible to get out.
Finally, the expert said you should avoid overstuffing your washing machine and dryer as it doesn't allow the clothes to circulate properly.
The video has since gone viral with over nine million views and viewers were seriously impressed with rich's tips.
