HAVE you ever used baking powder instead of baking soda by mistake?
Well there's a vital difference between the two, one baker said in a video on TikTok.
The 18-year-old cooking fan insisted that she couldn't "keep it a secret any longer", as she said: "Baking powder and baking soda are not the same thing."
Bicarbonate of soda starts to rise instantly, she explained, which is why you need to "put it into the oven fast when it's mixed with a liquid".
"That's why people like using it for pancakes and cookies – things that don't need to rise more than that," she said.
Meanwhile, baking powder will rise twice.

"It will rise just like bicarbonate of soda but it will also rise when heat touches it," she added.
"That's why it's better for cakes."
But if you're out of baking powder and need some, she added that you can mix cream of tartar with baking soda – and that gives you an equivalent.
"Have you ever mixed these up? because same," she added in the caption.
