The Danish Royal Family released new portraits after Christmas to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s 50th Anniversary. Princess Mary looked stunning donning the iconic Danish Ruby Parure tiara.
The Danish Ruby Parure tiara is a piece that was made for Désirée Clary Bernadotte, later Queen Desideria of Sweden, to wear at the coronation of Napolean and Joséphine in Paris in 1804.
The jewel arrived in Denmark in 1869 when Princess Lovisa of Sweden married King Frederik VIII of Denmark.
The diadem was passed down the generations of Danish royals, until today when in recent years Queen Alexandrine and Queen Ingrid have been seen wearing the jewel, as well as Crown Princess Mary.
It is reported Princess Mary, who has worn the piece on a number of occasions, altered the tiara to make it more comfortable and suit her personal look.

The ruby tiara is considered one of the most glamorous and regal ruby diadems in Europe’s royal vaults.
It features silver leaves covered in diamonds, surrounding a strip of rubies which imitate red berries.
Princess Mary chose the tiara for Queen Margrethe of Denmark’s glamorous Ruby Jubilee celebrations in 2012.
The royal also donned the diadem for her 50th birthday portraits earlier this year, when she looked stunning in a light blue dress.
She wore a shimmering floor-length gown by Danish designer Lasse Spangenberg which had long sleeves and a cinched waist.
Royal watchers took to social media to praise the jewel with @thepollykirilova saying: “She is stunning!” and @sweetgirlvs84 commented: “Beautiful Crown Princess and fantastic dress.”
Social media user @aston3930 agreed saying: “Just beautiful” while another one added: “Love Crown Princess Mary’s… just perfect.”
For the new portrait, the royal chose a very elegant long dress with floral motifs and she looked just beautiful in the off-the-shoulder black lace gown.
A royal fan commented that Princess Mary was as “elegant as always” and another one said that “Denmark is lucky to have a beautiful Australian Princess”.
Mary, who was born in Australia, married Prince Frederik of Denmark in 2004 and the couple now have four children.
Frederik is the heir to the Danish throne, and when he becomes King, Mary will automatically become Queen of Denmark.
In the recent pictures, Princess Mary can be seen posing next to her husband Prince Frederik, Frederik’s mother Queen Margrethe of Denmark and brother Prince Joachim and his wife Marie.
The portrait was taken in the Knight’s Hall of Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg, in Denmark.
Earlier this year, Queen Margrethe announced that the children of Joachim would lose their “His/Her Highness” and their Prince and Princess titles and instead become “His/Her Excellencies”.
Joachim and his wife announced they were “very sad” about the decision: “It’s never fun to see your children being harmed. They are been put in a situation they do not understand. I was given five days notice to tell them.”
