There’s a new plot twist in the saga of musical star Laura Osnes exiting a Hamptons show over its vaccination policy.
Guild Hall in East Hampton now says there was a “miscommunication” of its policy to Osnes — which led her to pull out of an upcoming one-night-only performance of director Susan Stroman’s “Crazy For You.”
When we published our original story this month about Osnes’ exit from the musical over its vaccine policy, a rep for the theater told us, “the policy of Guild Hall is that performers have the option to provide proof of full vaccination or a recent negative COVID test result.”
But Osnes then refuted that she was offered the choice to submit a negative test, posting on Instagram, “I would have tested in a heartbeat… something I have been doing for months, and will continue to do, in order to keep working safely.”
But Guild Hall told us on Wednesday: “Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication of our policy, and Laura Osnes voluntarily opted out of the one-night-only performance. She was graciously doing this event as a charitable gesture to Guild Hall, and for this we are grateful. Laura is a talented artist and we look forward to working with her again in the future.”
Osnes also said of her decision not to get vaxxed: “I stand by the decision my husband and I, with input from our physician, have made for ourselves, our family planning, and our future.” She added that in the future, she may “feel more confident in the research.”
Returning Broadway shows are requiring all stars, staff and audiences to show proof of vaccination.
Osnes — who was replaced in the Aug. 29 show by Sierra Boggess — has denied she was fired from the show and said she withdrew over the vaccine policy. Her exit from the show has sparked debate in the theater world.
