Inside the amazing £8 million house bought on the back of the Babycham boom

WERE you a huge fan of Babycham back in the day?

If you downed your fair share of the '70s tipple you might want to take a look at the amazing house you helped to buy.

This six-bed mansion was bought on the back of the Babycham boom – and it’s up for sale for £8 million.

Spearbed Copse belongs to the Showering family, heirs of the fortune made from the sparkling pear drink that was a massive hit in the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

Babycham was the first alcoholic drink to be advertised on British TV and its runaway success allowed creator Francis Showering to purchase this stunning thatched house in Beaulieu, Hants.

The  family home was passed down the family after his death in 1995 and is now on the market for the first time in 50 years.

The 1930s Tudor-style property sits in 12.5 acres in one of the most spectacular locations in Hampshire's

New Forest with superb views over the Beaulieu River.

The landscaped gardens roll down to a river jetty and a boathouse and the grounds also contain a heated swimming pool and tennis court.

The house itself has six bedrooms, an entrance hall, drawing room and multiple reception rooms.

As well as the 5,500sq ft house the estate also comes with a three, two bedroom flats in a converted red-crick water tower and a separate 3,000sq ft house.

Wendy Cottage, a former coach house built in a similar Tudor style to the main house, has a large, open-plan living room, kitchen and two ensuite bedrooms.

James Crawford, a partner at estate agents Knight Frank, who are selling the house, said: "This is a golden opportunity to buy a magnificent property that has not been on the market for over half a century.

"The defining characteristic is its proximity to the the water – the deep water jetty means that whatever the tide you can go for a sail.

"The house itself amazing and a majority of the rooms have views down towards the river.

"There is the attraction of water on one side and then privacy and seclusion provided on the other by the mature, wooded grounds.

"This really is a fabulous spot and one of the most beautiful places in the country to live, it's utterly charming."

The estate agent are hoping the multi-million pound mansion will put some fizz into the property market.
