Love Island star Georgia Townend has revealed why she has returned to her 9-5 at Lidl after leaving the show.
Despite only lasting 48 hours in the villa after failing to win over islander Hugo Hammond, the 27-year-old has fast become a favourite among fans.
Thanks to her witty Instagram captions, TikTok videos and comments, Georgia has cemented herself as an iconic figure among viewers.
Although the hit ITV2 show has proven to be an incredible launchpad for the careers of contestants, including Pretty Little Thing’s new creative director Molly Mae Hague, Georgia has admitted that it was always her plan to go back to work.
And she wants to be a positive role model to her new fans.
She told Grazia: “During Love Island I was on sabbatical from work, with the intention always being that I would return to my job.”
As a result, Georgia returned to her role in food marketing earlier this week in a bid to continue to work on her pre-Love Island career path.
“I’m very career driven and have invested a huge amount of time and dedication into building my career, I’ve climbed the corporate ladder, and my career continues to be very important to me,” she said.
But having amassed over 150,000 followers on Instagram, Georgia said that her return to the 9-5 was also inspired by her feelings of responsibility as a person now in the public eye.
“It’s important I send a positive message out to young people who perceive Instagram or other creative careers as the only measure of success,” she explained.
“Good jobs and careers all look different to different people.”
Importantly, Georgia highlighted the importance of people following their passions, regardless of whether or not it’s something that other people find interesting.
“So long as you are in a role, that you firstly enjoy, where you feel like you are actively contributing, and continue to grow and develop, you're in a very good career indeed.”
Sharing her first day back in the office on Instagram following her time in Mallorca, Georgia stunned in a bright pink co-ord as she posed in front of a Lidl logo, revealing her employer for the first time.
And in classic Georgia style, the marketing executive used the caption to joke that her brief stint in the villa was a result of her affiliation with the supermarket chain.
She wrote: “Yes I work for @lidlgb and yes that’s likely a contributing factor as to why my time in the villa was so short. It’s been instilled into me my entire career that checkouts should be as speedy as possible.”
Fellow contestants were quick to congratulate the Essex girl on her career move, with Faye writing: “I heard that check out times went down whilst you were out there, that’s why they needed you back” followed by a white heart.
Her announcement is likely to come as a shock for fans who have taken to social media to call for the bombshell to present the next series of the show.
