Jason Schwartzman, Eric Roberts and Eric Andre are joining the cast of Danny McBride’s “The Righteous Gemstones,” the HBO comedy centered on a famous televangelist family with a penchant for greed.
The nine-episode Season 2, which is currently in production, will see Schwartzman in the recurring role of Thaniel, a journalist working on a story on the ministries. Roberts will play Junior, who grew up with Eli and has suddenly re-entered his life, while Andre will play Lyle Lissons, a megachurch pastor from Texas who befriends Jesse and Amber.
“The Righteous Gemstones” is created, written and executive produced by McBride. Also exec producing are Jody Hill and David Gordon Green, John Carcieri, Jeff Fradley and Brandon James, with David Brightbill as producer, Justin Bourret and Melissa DeMino as co-producers, and Grant DeKernion, Jared Hess, Kevin Barnett, Chris Pappas and Edi Patterson as consulting producers.
Elsewhere, Schwartzman has completed Gia Coppola’s upcoming film “Mainstream,” starring Andrew Garfield and Maya Hawley. He can be seen next in Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch,” which Schwartzman co-wrote with Anderson and Roman Coppola and will premiere at Cannes in 2021. Roberts, a longtime theatre and screen veteran, is known on TV for his work on “Suits,” “CSI,” “Code Black,” “Heroes,” and Starz’s “Crash.”
Comedian and actor Eric Andre is the creator and host of Adult Swim’s “The Eric Andre Show,” which recently aired its fifth and highest-rated season. Andre, whose first standup special “Legalize Everything” premiered on Netflix last summer, is currently the star of Netflix’s comedy “Bad Trip,” which he produced and co-wrote with director Kitao Akurai and co-stars Lil Rey Howery and Tiffany Haddish. Andre is also the voice of Luci on Matt Groening’s “Disenchantment” and will be the voice of a new character of Universal’s “Sing 2,” premiering this December.
