A former reality TV star turned DJ says Valentine’s Day should be cancelled because she believes women use it to belittle others.
Jodie Weston even branded the annual celebration of love as cruel and archaic.
The former Rich Kids Go Skint personality does have a boyfriend – but says the pair will not be indulging in over the top romantic gestures on February 14.
She said: “Valentine's Day is a time a lot of women look forward to so they can brag about what they have and make others feel inferior.
“For a lot of people it is their worst 24-hour long nightmare.
“Some use it as a chance to spread cruel memes all over the internet reminding singletons they are alone and don’t have a special someone in their life, or that they will find out on Valentine's Day if they are being cheated on or not.”
And Jodie – who has supported Idris Elba at gigs – recently told the Daily Star she gets unwanted attention from creepy taxi drivers after shows.
But she said she was now “numb” to men sexually harassing her.
The 28-year-old added: “It’s not right but it is the life of a woman. It is hard to be a woman and it’s not OK.
“It’s really bad and it’s bad that you become numb to it because it happens so often. I do think the world is changing but it’s not quite there yet.
“I’ve had taxi drivers ask me if they can come back to mine with me. They also try to text me afterwards because they have my number from the booking.”
And the DJ now wants Valentine’s Day banned after suffering her own romance horrors – including being cheated on.
She explained: “I have been through it all when it comes to my love life. One of my exes spent Valentine's with another woman when I was recovering from being in hospital.
“I’ve had men I loved steal from me, one ex left me on a holiday I paid for, I’ve had female friends try to turn boyfriends against me or exes try to turn new boyfriends against me, but I feel its all enabled me to resonate with pain and put my selfish desires to the side.”
And she added: “I’m really hoping that people take a second to consider the implications of showing off this Valentine’s Day may have on others.
"To be honest if they really had someone who cared about them that much Valentines Day wouldn’t just be one day a year, it would be far more regular than that.
"Maybe it just needs to be banned and replaced with a day celebrating love in all its forms.”
She also believes many of the "cringey" loved up couple posts on social media are fake.
And Jodie said a lot of the men posing in the pictures would happily chat up other women given the chance.
She added: “I know I'm attractive, a good catch and I know if I went to a bar on any other day of the year there’s a good chance one of the people chatting me up has a partner back home.
“So I know there is nothing wrong with me, but for one day we get the anxiety of wondering whether the person we love will make an effort or humiliate us, or we get the reminder that we are single and no one really cares about us romantically.
“I remember one Valentines Day being stood in a lift with a guy I was dating and this girl got in and started balling her eyes out because she had just seen the guy she was dating with another woman.
“I guess because I’m selfless I always open my eyes and look around me, but maybe more people should take a leaf out of my book and do the same.”
