Merry, Merry brewery
Thursday through Dec. 24. Call to Arms Brewing loves its holidays, from Mardi Gras to Pride Week to Halloween – so it’s no surprise that the brewery is taking things over the top with Big Holiday Energy, a taproom transformation that will cover every inch of space with tinsel, ornaments, lights, mistletoe, stockings, gift wrap and full installations, including Christmas trees hanging upside down from the ceiling, a faux-fireplace for Santa, and a Hanukkah showroom.
There will also be a full slate of holiday events and activities throughout the month, like a daily Advent Calendar and an Elf of the Shelf Hunt promotion. On Saturday, Dec. 3, there will be a holiday-themed drag show from 6 to 8 p.m. and food from Yuan Wonton in collaboration with Lady in the Wild. Events later in the month include a mini Santa Con dress-up party, a Krampus Christmas Party, Pictures with Santa, and hot chocolate station on the weekends. Big Holiday Energy kicks off on Dec. 1 at the brewery, 4526 Tennyson St., in Denver.
Cookie monsters
Thursdays and Sundays. Keep that brewery theme rolling with Denver Microbrew Tour’s third annual Christmas Beer and Cookies tour. Expert guides will show you some of the best beer and cider producers in the RiNo Art District, paired with cookies from The Flour Shop.
For $55 per person, you visit four breweries or cideries, sample ten beers and enjoy four big cookies. You also get a free Santa hat and souvenir glass. The tours take place every Thursday and Sunday through December and they typically visit Ratio Beerworks, Odell Brewing, Bierstadt Lagerhaus and 14 Brewing. Lights, camera, ho, ho, ho
Saturday. The big event this weekend, of course, is the 9NEWS Parade of Lights, which sleds and sparkles its way through downtown Denver with more than 40 “extravagantly illuminated floats, giant helium-filled character balloons, magnificent marching bands, traditional equestrian units and vibrant cultural displays,” according to organizers. Santa will also be in attendance, along with parade mascot Major Waddles the Penguin, clearly.
The parade beings at 14th and Bannock streets in front of the City and County Building (grandstand tickets are available for purchase) and continues for two miles along Tremont, 1th, Arapahoe and 15th streets. Saturday. The 21st Amendment to the Constitution was ratified 89 years ago, on Dec. 5, 1933, putting an end to Prohibition in the United States. To honor Repeal Day, as it is known, the drinkeries near 25th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard in Edgewater are hosting their annual 21st Amendment Day bar crawl from 1 to 8 p.m. There will be six “speakeasies,” each with Prohibition-style cocktails or beer; they are Joyride Brewing, Edgewater Beer Garden, Edgewater Inn Pizza, Providence At 5280, Sloans Bar and Grill and The Electric Cure. 1920’s era wardrobe is encouraged. Monday. The Cruise Room, located inside the historic Oxford Hotel in downtown Denver, first opened on Dec. 5, 1933 – the day that Prohibition officially ended. To celebrate the spirit of Repeal Day, the Art Deco martini bar – which is modeled after the bar on the RMS Queen Mary and designed in the shape of a wine bottle – will offer classic cocktails and live music.
