Meet Charlotte Jones, the glamorous jockey who stunned Love Island star Chris Hughes with extraordinary Newcastle winner

CHARLOTTE JONES is the jockey who stunned Love Island star Chris Hughes with an amazing win that had the entire racing world awestruck.

Jones, 24, absolutely demolished rivals at Newcastle in February 2021 as she surged clear on 9-1 shot The Steward.

At one point in the 2m bumper race, Jones was more than 30 lengths clear of her nearest pursuers.

The television cameras capturing the action couldn't even fit the other runners in because they were so far behind.

And they did not get much closer, with Jones cruising over the line 13 lengths clear for her second win on the day.

That landed a whopping 509-1 double following her earlier triumph on rank 50-1 outsider Dagian.

Social media lit up in reaction to the stunning win.

And racing star Hughes was one of those totally floored by Jones' incredible ride.

He tweeted: "What have I just witnessed at Newcastle.

"I don't think I have ever seen anything like that in my life."

But the lack of competition in the race left punters in equal parts furious and amazed – with some questioning the other jockeys' tactics.

In reply to a tweet praising Jones' ride, one said: "More like f***ing woeful from the rest of them."

Another posted: "All those jockeys behind need a ban. At what point do you start closing the gap?"

A fellow user wrote: "What the f*** is going on here?"

One comment read: "The jockeys in behind need to be fined or banned for a week or so. You can't go on like that."

Such anger is commonplace with punters talking out of their pocket.

The one thing for certain is Jones is a jockey with a bright future.

Jimmy Moffatt is the trainer of The Steward – a ten-year-old horse who cost £15,000 and had to be checked by vets before his eye-popping win.

And while he admitted the horse is a 'lairy so-and-so', he was full of praise for Jones.

He said: "She’s a good jockey. She’s been with us for five years, right from the start.

"I think that’s her 20th winner now for us, so her claim goes down to 5lb.

"It’s a big day for her, and she’s done really well."

For her part, Jones was pretty blunt in her assessment of the horse that blew away the field.

Speaking after the win and explaining what happened, she said: "It wasn't much my choice. The Steward does what The Steward wants."

Jones will now look to get to the magic 95-winner mark, which means she can lose her claim, which is basically a weight allowance inexperienced jockeys get.

She will do so with the full support of Bristol Bears boyfriend Sam Bedlow, a 6ft, 16.5st centre for the Premiership rugby side.

Bedlow regularly posts photos of the loved-up pair enjoying days out.

Here's hoping he'll be able to put up some from the winner's enclosure sometime soon.
