MIDDLESBROUGH have splashed around £6million on Argentine midfielder Martin Payero.
Payero, 22, moves from Argentine top-flight side Banfield and passed a medical last month.
He then went to the Olympics but Argentina disappointed, finishing third behind Spain and Egypt in Group C.
Payero has penned a three-year deal at the Riverside and Boro boss Neil Warnock is excited by his signing.
He said: “Martin will be a great addition.
“He will be an exciting signing, we’re delighted to get everything done, and we’re looking forward to working with him.
"I know Martin is looking forward to it and can’t wait to play in front of our fans.”
Warnock led Middlesbrough to a 10th-place finish in the Championship last term, falling out of the play-off race in the last few weeks of the season.
But as a serial promotion winner – with eight under his belt – the 72-year-old will surely have his eye on reaching the Premier League once again.

Payero is Boro's sixth signing of the summer and their biggest yet in terms of transfer fee.
Warnock has also signed free agents Sammy Ameobi, Joe Lumley, and Lee Peltier.
Striker Uche Ikpeazu and midfielder Matt Crooks have also arrived for undisclosed fees from Wycombe and Rotherham respectively.
