RALF RANGNICK'S spell as interim manager of Manchester United hardly went according to the script.
Things got so bad football director John Murtough, the man who appointed him, is reported to have had a frosty relationship with the now Austria boss.
Rangnick was brought in after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked last November to provide stability until the end of the campaign.
But after his appointment by Murtough was widely praised, the BBC claim the pair's relationship ended up breaking down to the point they were "barely on speaking terms".
Rangnick hit out in April that the club needed "open heart surgery" to get back on track.
Those words aren't thought to have gone down well with football director Murtough, who believed Rangnick did not try to protect the club's reputation.

Meanwhile Rangnick himself is said to have maintained he didn't get the support he needed from the club.
The German also thought his millionaire flops were not taking responsibility for their dire performances.
Rangnick guided the club to their lowest-ever Premier League points tally, but there were just as many problems off the pitch as there were on it.
SunSport exclusively revealed last month two Red Devils stars had to be pulled apart in a training ground scrap.

Elsewhere club legend Paul Scholes revealed Jesse Lingard had told him the dressing room was a "disaster".
Rangnick had been supposed to transition into a two-year consultancy role at Old Trafford once a new manager had been appointed.
But his advisory role was scrapped in May by mutual consent after a dismal six months at the club.

On the pitch the Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League, 13 points off fourth-placed Tottenham.
Even worse than that cross-town rivals Manchester City registered a whopping 35 points more than United, and in doing so lifted a second consecutive title.
