Chelsea began their Champions League campaign with a dominant 5-0 win over Sarajevo at the Asim Ferhatovic Hase Stadium.
Millie Bright, Drew Spence and Maria Thorisdottir all found the back of the net for the Blues in the first half before Ji So-Yun and Adelina Engman guaranteed the victory late in the second half.
Fran Kirby was back in the starting line-up following her injury whilst on England duty and the impact last season’s WSL top-goalscorer had on the team was clear to see.
It did not take long for Emma Hayes’ side to get on the score sheet, as the hosts struggled to keep possession.
Bright picked up the ball around 25 yards and her curling shot when straight past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
After a couple of chances from Fran Kirby and Millie Bright, Chelsea’s attacking domination paid off. Chelsea were awarded their fourth corner of the game and Karen Carney’s swinging ball found Drew Spence to head it in at close range.

The visitors were firmly in control for the majority of the game with goalkeeper Carly Telford not having much to do her end and Maria Thorisdottir added a third just before half-time.
After a relatively quiet second half, Fran Kirby was brought down in the box with less than ten minutes to go but her resulting spot-kick was expertly saved by the Sarajevo goalkeeper.
The penalty seemed to give Chelsea the kick they had needed and Ji So-Yun and Adelina Engman both found the back of the net with the minutes ticking down.
Hayes’ side finished the game with a 5-0 advantage, giving them a commanding lead before the second leg at Kingsmeadow next week.
