A London Marathon runner passed away unexpectedly while returning home after the race.
Steve Shanks completed the race in an amazing two hours and 53 minutes.
Who was London Marathon runner Steve Shanks?
Steve Shanks was an experienced marathon runner from Bingham, Nottingham.
He was part of the Redhill Road Runners, a friendly running club based in Nottingham.
He was married to his wife Jessica Shanks.
Steve was only 45 years old at the time of his unexpected passing.

When did Steve Shanks pass away?
His death was announced by race organisers on April 26, 2023, in a heartbreaking statement.
It said: "Everyone at London Marathon Events was deeply saddened to hear about the sudden death of Steve Shanks as he travelled home on Sunday, April 23 after taking part in the London Marathon.
"Steve, who was 45 and lived in Bingham, Nottingham was a very experienced runner who had completed many marathons and finished on Sunday in 2:53:26."
The cause of Mr Shank's death is currently not known but shall be established once medical examinations are complete.

What has been said about Steve Shanks and can I donate?
Steve's wife Jessica took to Facebook to share a tribute to her husband.
She wrote "It’s with great sadness, that I wish to announce the loss of my wonderful husband, Stephen Shanks.
"His passing was sudden & out of the blue.
"He was returning home having spent the day participating in the London Marathon."
"As you can imagine I’m absolutely in shock & devastated."
A GoFundMe has been set up in his memory, to raise funds on behalf of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, a charity close to Steve's heart.
A touching tribute to Steve on the fundraising page says:
"Steve was a keen runner never happier than running anything, from his local Parkrun, to the Bob Graham Round.
"But he was more than just a runner he was a musician, a knitter, and a renowned quizzer possessed of extensive knowledge of terrible pop music.
