A Place In The Sun’s Jonnie Irwin very emotional as he takes son to nursery for last time amid cancer battle | The Sun

TV star Jonnie Irwin marked a major milestone yesterday as he took his eldest son to nursery for the final time.

Former A Place In The Sun presenter Jonnie, who is living with terminal cancer, hopped on his bike to take Rex, three, to his last day.

The proud dad, 49, wrote on Instagram: "Last EVER ride to nursery with Rex. Suitably waved off by Rafa and his spade and Rex with his game face on!"

Rex looked raring to go, while younger brother Rafa, two, was more interested in the spade he held in his hands.

Jonnie's followers credited his resolve, with one writing: "You are an amazing human being.

"You put most of us to shame with you positive energy and love for life. You should be so proud of it all."

"I've started to tell Rex in private conversations, 'You can do anything'. He's bright, he's talented, and comes home from nursery knowing more French than I do.

"I had a tough upbringing and I've managed to do a lot in my life, despite that, but I don't want them to struggle.

"They're happy kids, they laugh, and are a lot of fun to have around."

Last month Jonnie revealed cancer has almost killed him twice.

The 49-year-old TV personality, who was axed by Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun after producers were made aware of his illness, shared his daily struggles in a podcast.

Father-of-three Jonnie said: “I have been close to death's door, twice at least.”

Doctors told him he only had six months to live when they discovered lung cancer two-and-a-half years ago.

He defied those predictions, despite the fatal condition spreading to his brain.

On podcast OneChat, Jonnie explained: “I am living with cancer rather than dying from cancer.”

Finding a silver lining in the horrific situation, Jonnie said that living with cancer had meant he was able to spend more time with his three boys – Rex, three, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac.
