BBC The Repair Shop host forced to address claims he broke Royal protocol

The Repair Shop host Jay Blades has addressed claims he broke Royal protocol during an episode featuring King Charles III.

Jay welcomed his special guest during a special episode of the BBC series which aired on Wednesday (October 26) evening.

In a show which was recorded before Queen Elizabeth's death, the host welcomed the then-Prince, who had brought two family heirlooms requiring reparations, a Wemyss Ware piece made for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and an 18th century bracket clock.

He acted very friendly towards the royal, touching him and therefore seemingly breaking the protocol according to which the Royal should initiate physical contact.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Jay said that if his behaviour had been inappropriate, the King would have said so.

He explained: "I was touching him and he was returning the touch as well, so the royal protocol is by the person who is a royal.

"If he didn't want me to touch him he would have said or someone would have told me, and he would have done that.

"But I think the way that we have this mutual interest in heritage craft, that's what bonded us together."

While some BBC viewers were left baffled by the supposed breach of protocol, others enjoyed the pair bonding over their shared passion,.

Some fans even went as far as dubbing them the new Ant and Dec.

During the episode, King Charles admitted that he didn't know a piece of vital information about one of his precious possessions.

The professionals toiled hard to repair the piece and the King returned back to the barn to see the end result.

Jay brought him in and a curious Charles was told to "wait" by Jay as he asked whether the clock had been fixed.

He asked if they had "gotten the bells working" and the professionals gave him a demonstration.

As Charles listened to the clock chime, he explained: "It's trying to work out what the tune is. It's a Scottish tune, isn't it?
