Angela Scanlon may be the host of Your Home Made Perfect and the mum of two young kids, but she's admitted that she felt like the one heading back to school when meeting her fellow Strictly Come Dancing co-stars.
The TV presenter is part of the star-studded line-up taking part in the BBC One show this year, with Angela joining Amanda Abbington, Adam Thomas, Angela Rippon and other celebs in the cast.
Speaking to OK! in an exclusive interview, Angela revealed that the 2023 cast already have a WhatsApp group set up.
“I’d just come back from the summer holidays so It was a proper back-to-school feeling when I met them all," she said.
"I felt like I was four again. I’m excited but obviously anxious. We’re all doing something that’s completely out of our comfort zone, though.”
The 39-year-old Irish broadcaster revealed that she signed up to Strictly after deciding 2023 would be the "year of yes".
"I went into this year with the mentality of whatever is chucked at me, I’ll say yes,” she says. “It’s maybe a bit bigger than I was hoping for but I asked for it, so I’d better go with it.”
Angela is competing alongside comedian Les Dennis, Love Island’s Zara McDermott, West End star Layton Williams and Coronation Street’s Ellie Leach on this year's series.
They'll be joining EastEnders' Bobby Brazier, tennis pro Annabel Croft, comedian Eddie Kadi, Paralympian Jody Cundy, Channel 4's Krishnan Guru-Murthy, radio presenter Nikita Kanda and Casualty's Nigel Harman in the line-up.
The One Show presenter is married to tech entrepreneur Roy Horgan, and the couple have two children – five-year-old Ruby and 18-month-old Marnie.
Speaking about joining Strictly, Angela said that the timing seemed perfect with her kids a little older. "We’ve had the conversation before and it hasn’t been right – I’ve been trying to have a baby or thinking about having a baby or pregnant.
"When it came in this year, there wasn’t really a question. Ruby loves the show. She was like, ‘Can I do it, too? Are we doing it together?’ She was quite devastated when she realised she couldn’t dance with me," she added.
Angela even turned to former Strictly stars Ellie Taylor and radio DJ Clara Amfo for advice – and that the resounding feedback was "brace yourself but it's the best thing you'll ever do".
"That’s my motivation in life generally, to do things that feel frightening and really uncomfortable, and I feel like I haven’t done it for a while," she said.
Strictly Come Dancing launches on Saturday 16th September at 6:45pm on BBC One.
