Casualty's Amanda Mealing reveals the Queen cut short her Corrie role

Casualty’s Amanda Mealing is taking a break from filming as Connie Beauchamp right now and recently revealed she’s got a bone to pick with the Queen!

Amanda Mealing has been directing on the iconic Coronation Street set in recent months, but her schedules changed when cast and crew welcomed Her Majesty to the cobbles.

‘Having the Queen turn up in the middle of your shoot is a first!’, Amanda told Express recently.

‘Her Majesty turned up one morning, so I had to vacate the street and then I found it absolutely impossible to get anyone to focus in the afternoon.

‘So I blame the Queen for not getting my shot list finished for the day. She owes me one!’.

As well as focusing on her skills as a director, Amanda has been raising breast cancer awareness.

Metro.co.uk spoke to the actress a few weeks ago, where she spoke about the importance of getting your breasts checked as early as possible.

‘I’m guilty of finding a lump, a very small lump and ignoring it, which meant I went through the extensive treatments. Even though that’s the breast cancer I had, had I done something about it when it was a pea sized lump, I could’ve had the lump removed, probably. My treatment would not have been as extensive as it was. I know a lot of the time our fear – with any illness – is to ignore it.’

‘I don’t want other women and men to have to go through what I did unnecessarily. I didn’t need to go through what I did but saying that, if that does happen to you, I’m here nearly 19 years later and I’m privileged to share that.’

Absolutely LOVED working with this one again. @itvcorrie only gave me one scene to direct her in but it just takes one scene for Ms Hazelgrove to smash it! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 pic.twitter.com/RcgJdAZhuC

The Queen’s trip to Weatherfield came 40 years after opening the new set at Granada Studios.

She was welcomed by ITV chairman Sir Peter Bazlegette and managing director of continuing drama, John Whiston.

Among the many people she met during her visit, the Queen interacted with Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod, William, Barbara, Sue Nicholls, who plays Audrey Roberts and Helen Worth, who plays Gail Platt.
