A Coronation Street character made a return to screens after an absence of five years on Monday night. Faye Windass’ (played by Ellie Leach) estranged daughter Miley (Frankie Simmonds) was back on the cobbles, although her mum wasn’t keen to see her, and she was left to get to know grandad Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) instead. But fans were distracted from the family reunion by the fact that the youngster was a double for another street resident Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan).
Taking to Twitter, one viewer using the handle @ASuperGav wrote of their confusion: “Miley? I thought that was Hope,” as another called @teenamassam responded: “I did too…”
Another fan @N7_Jay joked: “It’s been so long since Tim has seen he’s granddaughter he’s mistaken Hope Stape doing her best Stephen accent for her.” [sic]
User @Lynne1985 said: “Why does Miley look like the image of Hope?”
Meanwhile @Mammy_white queried: “Isn’t Miley supposed to be 7 coming up 8? She looks a lot older and has a look of Hope.”
In what was a scandalous storyline at the time, Faye fell pregnant at just 12 years of age having slept with fellow teen Jackson (Rhys Cadman).
After giving birth she was desperate to give her daughter up for adoption and get on with her life as if it had never happened.
However, Jackson’s family wanted to care for the child and Faye surrendered her to them.
The family subsequently emigrated to Canada although Faye was unaware of this until after they’d left.
The last time she saw her child was in 2017 when she had a surprise run in with Jackson at the hospital.
She was there to have an infected tattoo treated while Jackson’s father was having a hip replacement.
While she did spend some time with her young daughter, her then partner Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) was very jealous.
After Seb got into a fight with Jackson, he and his family went back to Canada and took Miley with them although Faye did get to keep one of her drawings.

Recently Jackson contacted Faye before his return to the Street although his recasting was also distracting fans.
The character, now played by Joseph Evans, is supposed to be the same age as Faye who is 21 but fans felt he looked much older.
@belfastgal81 asked: “Why does Jackson look like a 30yo man…he def doesn’t look the same age as faye #corrie.”
@VampLover27 agreed: “The last Jackson had a really baby face I’m sure of it now he looks like he’s been working outside for twenty years #Corrie.” (sic)
Although Faye has been adamant that she doesn’t want to see her daughter, her father Tim is desperately trying to persuade her to meet the young girl.
Jackson is also keen for mum and daughter to be reunited.
Although Faye is currently loved up with Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) it has been teased that Jackson’s return will cause problems for the couple which viewers will see play out in the coming episodes.
Coronation Street is on ITV on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
