Dexter: New Blood has finally aired and fans are loving the revival series. Dexter Morgan is back, this time living in the small town of Iron Lake, New York under the alias Jim Lindsay. After 10 long years, he reunites with his teenage son Harrison. Although fans have been thoroughly enjoying the revival so far, one issue from the series so far has stood out.
[SPOILER ALERT: Spoilers ahead for Dexter: New Blood Episodes 1-4]
Dexter kills for the first time in 10 years in ‘Dexter: New Blood’
At the beginning of Dexter: New Blood, Dexter has begun a new life in Iron Lake. He is dating the Chief of Police, Angela Bishop, and is living in a very different environment than Miami. Dexter has even managed to abstain from killing for almost a decade. However, all that changes in episode 1.
In “Cold Snap” Dexter deals with an obnoxious wealthy poacher named Matt Caldwell attempting to buy a guy from Fred’s Fish & Game Shop. Dexter later learns that Matt is responsible for a boat crash that killed five people. At the end of the episode, Matt kills the white dear that Dexter has been infatuated with. Dexter snaps and takes Matt to his kill room.
Dexter is then faced with figuring out what to do with Matt’s body. Unlike in Miami, he doesn’t have a large body of water perfect for making bodies disappear. Eventually, Dexter decides to use a public incinerator in Iron Lake to dispose of the body, but some fans don’t see this as especially realistic.
How did Dexter get rid of Matt Caldwell’s body?
A fan noted on Reddit that it took Dexter quite a while to figure out what seems like the obvious way to solve his problem. “Don’t know how it took Dexter, a mastermind serial killer, a whole episode to realize he can get rid of the human remains by incineration…” they stated. However, that could be explained by Dexter being rusty or preoccupied with the arrival of Harrison.
Still, one thing fans can’t ignore is that even the flames of the public incinerator likely would not have burned hot enough to destroy all traces of Matt. “The bones are still going to be in there,” a fan pointed out simply. “Not just the bones, victim had like a titanium rod in his leg,” another pointed out.
Will Dexter get caught in ‘Dexter: New Blood’?
If these remains are never brought up again, it’s a pretty big plot hole in Dexter: New Blood. However, the series continues to hint that Dexter won’t get off so easy. Matt’s father Kurt is immediately suspicious that something bad happened to his son. He insisted that Angela not give up searching for Matt. Then suddenly, Kurt says he got a FaceTime call from Matt.
Dexter suspects that Kurt may have lied so he can take his revenge on the killer without the interference of the police. Kurt may discover Dexter as the culprit, and find what’s left of Matt’s remains.
New episodes of Dexter: New Blood air Sunday nights at 9 PM ET on Showtime.
