Danny Dyer is to quit EastEnders later this year, the soap has confirmed.
The actor – who joined the cast in 2013, playing Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter – is not leaving imminently, with "plenty of explosive drama" for his character before then.
A spokeswoman for the soap said Dyer, 44, has not been blocked from other projects and denied reports suggesting the BBC show is in a crisis ahead of his departure.
According to a friend, the decision was not taken "lightly" by Dyer, who feels the "time is right to explore other roles".
EastEnders said: "Danny will be leaving EastEnders when his contract comes to an end later this year.
"Danny has made Mick Carter an iconic character, which we shall always be grateful for, however we won't be saying goodbye just yet as there's still quite some time – and plenty of explosive drama for Mick – to come before he departs Walford. "

Craig Tinker makes HUGE blunder
POLICE constable Craig Tinker is investigating Ted’s death after the pensioner was ran over by Emma and Faye.
However, his less than secretive behaviour about the case alarmed Coronation Street viewers on Thursday, January 6, 2022.
After attempting to remove all evidence of their involvement with Ted, Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) and Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) are desperate to stay one step ahead of authorities.
They were given a full rundown of the case by Craig on Thursday’s episode of Corrie.
Colson Smith‘s character puzzled fans when he gave crucial details of the investigation surrounding the elderly man’s passing to both young women, whom he doesn’t suspect to be implicated.
ITV viewers found it baffling that a police officer could be so open about an ongoing investigation with civilians, some taking to Twitter to vent about the blunder.
“Craig should really have lessons on how to remain confidential”, wrote one Twitter user.
Another added: “Craig ain’t very confidential for a copper?”

Matt & Isabel's return to Emmerdale (continued…)
A source said: "ITV have conducted a rigorous enquiry into the allegations made, with witness statements taken. Bosses accepted Matthew and Isabel's explanation and agreed they can return to work.
"However, it has been made very clear that racism and bullying will not be tolerated by ITV.
"They have also offered the subject of their alleged remarks guidance about how to deal with the pair's return."

Emmerdale: Matt Wolfenden & Isabel Hodgins to return
EMMERDALE stars Matthew Wolfenden and Isabel Hodgins will return to the ITV soap after a race row inquiry.
The pair have been absent from the set since September when it was claimed a mixed-race actress was upset by a comment and her accent allegedly being mimicked.
But it is understood ITV bosses have accepted their explanation that the alleged remark and mimicry were "misheard".
ITV said it had made a "rigorous enquiry" but no formal action will be taken and they are now expected back on set.
Matthew, 41, who plays David Metcalfe, has been seen at the studios in Leeds. Isabel, 28, who plays his lover Victoria Sugden, was seen at her flat in nearby Harrogate.

Danny Dyer 'feels the time is right to explore other roles'
A friend of Dyer's said: "Danny loves EastEnders but as an actor he feels the time is right to explore other roles.
"He's incredibly grateful to the show and the opportunities it has given him, and it wasn't a decision he took lightly, but after playing Mick for nearly nine years he feels it's time to give the character of Mick a rest.
"He's not sure how they are going to write him out yet but he's hoping that they leave the door open for Mick."
An EastEnders source said: "Danny made the decision quite some time ago that he would leave the show this year, which has given bosses plenty of time to plan a huge storyline for him."
The source added Dyer's character will be "at the heart of some big drama" with the return of Kellie Bright's character Linda Carter this year.

Vinny Dingle finds Manpreet Sharma ALIVE
Wednesday’s episode of the ITV soap left many fearing twisted nurse Meena Jutla had murdered her sister after she was seen dragging her body out of the house in a body bag.
However, the final moments of yesterday’s episode saw Vinny enter a deserted farm shed and find Manpreet barely alive and shackled up.
Vinny has been gathering evidence to try and clear Liv’s name after she was charged with Ben’s murder instead of Meena.
Thursday’s double bill saw Meena’s name keep popping up as he checked out his leads, but during a visit to see Liv in prison she told him it wasn’t anything to go on and to forget about it all.
Vinny returned home and chucked his research in the bin, but tonight’s episode saw his detective senses spike again when he saw Meena laying into Noah for stealing her ring, which was actually a sick momento from one of her victims.
Noah then revealed Meena had threatened him, and broke into his house to get the ring back.
Vinny then spotted Meena driving off, and so he decided to follow her in Sam’s van, which eventually brought him to the shed where Manpreet was being held captive.

Sally Dynevor practices terrifying lift in Dancing on Ice training
The ITV soap favourite, who plays Sally Webster, is switching Weatherfield for the wintry surroundings of the reality show this month.
She has been paired with pro Matt Evers and the pair took to the Altrincham Ice Rink, not a million miles away from the Coronation Street set, to practise ahead of the show launch.
Sally wrapped up in a blue puffer jacket and dark leggings before pulling on her white skates and hopping onto Matt’s right shoulder.
She understandably looked a little uncertain as she held her arms out for balance, before her professional partner swooped in and propped them up into a T-shape.

EastEnders: Chelsea Fox plotting against husband Gray Atkins
CHELSEA Fox has been plotting with Whitney Dean in the hopes of exposing husband Gray Atkins.
However, in an episode set to air this Friday (January 7, 2022) on BBC One, both women seem to be at odds.
In a surprising twist, Gray will witness Chelsea throwing a drink in Whitney’s face. However, and as viewers may know, appearances will be misleading.
Since the beginning of their relationship in June, 2021, Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams) has given Gray (Toby-Alexander Smith) a run for his money.
After a long game of push and pull, both characters were brought together by their looming parenthood as the beautician was pregnant with the couple’s first child.
Initially set on having an abortion, Chelsea found out she was further along than expected and decided to raise the child alone.
However, Gray managed to convince her otherwise, determined to be a part of the child’s life.
The pair eventually tied the knot during EastEnders‘ Christmas Day (Saturday, December 25, 2021) special.

EastEnders fans in meltdown
EASTENDERS fans went into meltdown over DCI Samantha Keeble's epic return during Friday night's instalment of the BBC soap.
The police officer – played by Alison Newman – hasn't been seen around Walford since 2015.
The detective chief inspector was last spotted in the Square when she was investigating the murder of Lucy Beale six years ago – and wrongly accused Phil Mitchell's son Ben.
Last night she made a comeback during a scene with Phil and his solicitor Ritchie Scott.
The baddie handed himself into the police after going on the son with his son Raymond, and he's also wanted in connection for Vincent Hubbard's murder.
Both Phil and Ritchie were shocked when the newly appointed DCI Samantha Keeble walked in to the interview room at the station.
And viewers couldn't believe their eyes.
One wrote on Twitter: "Wow, Keeble what a blast from the past."
Another said: "Thought we’d seen the last of Keeble!"

ITV announcer gives away major Meena twist
EMMERDALE fans slammed broadcaster ITV for "casually giving away plot spoilers" amid Meena Jutla's latest apparent murder.
Viewers of the soap had already witnessed the character presumably kill sister Manpreet Sharma, dragging her out of the house in a body bag, after she discovered Meena's evil ways.
Emmerdale villain Meena, played by Paige Sandhu, had been holding her sister hostage in a bedroom since Christmas and started drugging her sibling with Diazepam and other meds.
She was presumed dead as Meena was seen dragging out the bag swathed in plastic sheets at the dead of night – with Emmerdale spoilers later casting doubt on the murder.
Yet for those fans who were unaware of the soap's leaked storylines, they presumed Manpreet had been murdered – until the announcer waded in.
Just before Friday's episode, he mused whether someone would finally “come to Manpreet's rescue”.
This apparent contradiction left viewers stunned before the first scene had even aired.
One angry fan took to Twitter to rage: "Emmerdale sack the announcer for blowing the whole episode before it started used to be Granada Reports who spoiled it."

Fans convinced they’ve rumbled HUGE Curtis Delamere DNA twist
A student hopeful to become a doctor, Curtis was portrayed by Sam Retford and was brought on to Coronation Street in May, 2021, as a love interest for established character Emma (Alexandra Mardell).
Curtis left Weatherfield in December, 2021, after 51 appearances in the ITV soap.
But some viewers are ready to see him return to Weatherfield as Ted's mystery grandson in a shocking twist.
One fan took to Facebook to share their theory: "Curtis ends up being Ted's grandson and when Emma and Faye's plan falls apart, Curtis comes to the rescue saying she was [with him] because she's his fiancée? And they end up getting back together!"
"Bet's on Ted's grandson being Curtis", responded another social media user.
A third user chimed in: "Is Curtis going to be the grandson they keep mentioning?"

Emmerdale fans disgusted as Meena Jutla rapes Liam Cavanagh
EMMERDALE fans are disgusted after Meena Jutla raped Liam Cavanagh in an attempt to get pregnant.
The serial killer – who is played by actress Paige Sandhu in the ITV soap – was horrified that casual date Billy Fletcher would end things with her that she lied about being pregnant.
Viewers know Billy reunited with ex Dawn after saving her from Meena’s sick scheme to have her son kidnapped.
In tonight’s episode he ended things with Meena and she took it very badly.
Billy told her: “It wasn’t like that between us – we were never that serious.”

Corrie fans gutted as Sarah drops baby bombshell
Coronation Street viewers were left gutted after Sarah Platt dropped a heart-breaking baby bombshell on Adam Barlow.
In last night’s episode, Lydia and Adam had a confrontation before she turned up drunk to a meeting at Underworld with Sarah.
Sarah told Adam: “It’s me and you arguing again, because of you Adam because you think you are the centre of the Universe.
“Do you know that having a baby is hard enough without being stuck with a partner who thinks it’s all about him all the time?”
Adam replied: “Stuck with? Wow, sounds to me like you’re the one having commitment issues.”
With a sigh she said: “Well either way, it’s not really the right time to be having a baby”, before telling Adam it was her body, so her choice.
Viewers were left gutted by her decision, with one writing: “Sarah wait till you find out that Adam is the Dad you’ll soon change your tune.”
Another added: “Sarah is getting on my nerves if I was Adam I would have left her by now.”

Sarah Jayne Dunn shames Hollyoaks bosses
SARAH Jayne Dunn flashed her bum in two pictures in order to highlight the hypocrisy of Hollyoaks bosses.
The 40-year-old was axed from the popular Channel 4 soap last year after joining adult site OnlyFans – but has pointed out the images are no racier than ones she did before.
In her latest post, the mum-of-three shared two “almost identical photos” – one taken during her time on the show and one afterwards.
She pointed out the only difference between them is that she was pulling the strings in the most recent one, as she continued to spread her motivating message of “taking back control”.
Sarah explained: “The first photo: Arranged by someone else for a National publication, style of shoot decided by someone else, any editing/Photoshop done without my approval, copyright of image (of me) owned by someone else.
“Exclusive interview as agreement of shoot, no financial benefit to myself (but usually a payment is made in this type of agreement). The control, power and decisions in someone else’s hands.”

Meena Jutla makes sickening threat to Liam (Continued…)
Furious and unwilling to let go of Billy, Meena told him she was carrying his child.
Viewers were horrified by the scenes in which Meena gave Liam alcohol during a Christmas party, planning to sexually assault him.
And when Liam snoops a little too far into Meena’s business, the serial murderer is never afraid to strike again with a horrifying warning she will issue him in a new Emmerdale episode scheduled to air this month.
As Meena keeps her sister Manpreet and Vinny Dingle captive, two characters who are hot on her trail, Liam is perplexed to find out that her medical records hold no trace of her pregnancy or her miscarriage.
Liam’s concerns about Meena only grow when he sees blood seeping through a bandage on the latter’s wrist.
The nurse was hurt during a struggle with her sister Manpreet, who was trying to find a way out of her captivity.
Meena is stunned even further when she finds out that Liam knows she faked her pregnancy all along.
Realising he is digging too much into her business, Meena threatens to accuse Liam of sexually harassing her at the surgery’s Christmas party.
Liam’s involvement will even convince Meena that any loose end will need sorting as she returns to Manpreet and Vinny, promising them that their time has come.
