There was a shock ending to last night’s Emmerdale, when serial killer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) finally became a victim herself – as Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) pushed her over the parapet of a bridge. As Liam looked over, he saw the apparently lifeless body of Meena slumped on the ground. Is she dead?
This came in the middle of a week that has been a reminder exactly how twisted Meena can be, as her evil scheming was dialled up to 11. First she abducted Dawn (Olivia Bromley) and Billy (Jay Kontzle) from their own wedding, taking them to a remote viaduct and holding them at gunpoint.
As she played a macabre game with them, forcing Billy to choose whether he or Dawn should be shot, Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) turned up and was shot. When Dawn overpowered Meena and got the gun out of her hand, Meena revealed she had another twist in store, saying that if she died Dawn would never see her son again. And we saw that, back at Woodbine, Harriet (Katherine Dow Blyton) was lying in a pool of blood and Lucas (Noah Ryan Aspinall) was nowhere to be seen.
With Dawn and Lucas safely reunited in last night’s episode, Meena drove off in the stolen limo, Liam heard that Leyla was missing and Meena could be responsible, and he went off to look for his wife.
When he spotted Meena he grabbed a pitchfork and demanded that Meena took her to Leyla. ‘Domineering! I love that for you,’ Meena teased him. She ran off and ended up on a bridge, where she taunted Liam about the deaths of Andrea and Leanna. Liam became overcome with emotion as Meena revealed details of his daughter’s death and how she didn’t take her high heels off to run away. ‘Literally died for fashion. A fashion victim!’ As Liam lunged at her with the pitchfork, Meena told him where Leyla was.
At that point Liam would have left her and Meena would have escaped, but she couldn’t resist one last jibe about Leanna, and as she grinned in is face, Liam pushed her over the bridge.
So is this finally the end for Meena Jutla? Has Liam Cavanagh taken revenge for his daughter’s death and killed the woman who murdered her?
If Meena is dead, Liam could be facing a murder charge. Will he have to admit that he pushed Meena? Or would he try to argue that she fell, and he wasn’t there? We saw Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) walking nearby. Could she have seen anything, and would she come to Liam’s defence?
On the other hand, Meena could have survived the fall. As a doctor, will Liam actually be the one to save her life? It looks like if she does survive, she’s not going to escape yet again. Could she actually be facing time in prison?
So many questions – but we have a double episode tonight where we should start getting some answers.
