Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and Leyla Harding’s (Roxy Shahidi) wedding preparations will soon be underway as Liam is planning on proposing to his partner in Emmerdale.
However, no soap proposal never goes smoothly and to make matters worse for the soon-to-be married couple, Liam and Leyla will have to deal with the return of a familiar face –
Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles).
Bernice being back in the village will come as a shock to Liam and Leyla. The character was last seen the night before her proposed wedding to Liam when she dumped her fiancé and left for Australia to look after her former husband, Charlie, who had been involved in an accident.
Liam took time to recover and ahead of Bernice’s return, Jonny McPherson has hinted at his character’s reaction when the person he nearly married returns to the Dales…
‘He’d be furious and just sick to his stomach’ Jonny revealed. ‘Leyla is absolutely the one for him. The fact that they’d had to hit rock bottom and work through all that stuff; he didn’t know Maya was a paedophile, he didn’t know Bernice was going to go back to Australia to sort out her first husband either.
‘It feels like he’s been leaping in too quickly but now he’s met somebody, everything’s out in the open, there’s total trust and he’s dead excited.’
But things may not go as smooth sailing as what Liam is hoping as talking about her return and what to expect from Bernice, Samantha Giles said:
‘I’m delighted to be returning to play out Bernice’s future storylines which I’m sure are going to keep the audience entertained.
She certainly arrives back with a bang that’s all I’m allowed to say right now and I’m looking forward to releasing my next two books whilst juggling her hectic onscreen life!’
