Emmerdale has seen plenty of heartache for the Dingles in recent months with Cain Dingle (played by Jeff Hordley) accused of murder and the death of matriarch Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter). As part of the Christmas Day special, there will be a new face in the village who is going to once again change everything for the residents in the ITV soap. Here’s all there is to know about the family ties between Caleb and Cain Milligan (Will Ash).
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Emmerdale.
How is Caleb related to Cain? Who is his mum?
Emmerdale will see Caleb arrive in the Dales on Christmas Day when he will reveal he is the long-lost brother of Cain and Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter).
Cain was aware he had another sibling but this will come as a complete shock to Caleb’s new sister.
Since the news of newcomer Caleb came out, fans have been wondering exactly how the three are related.
Emmerdale writer Sharon Marshall explained everything there is to know about their family tree on This Morning.
She said: “Caleb Milligan is the long-lost brother of Cain and Chas.
“So Faith had another child, people were asking who the mother was.
“Cain knew about him but kept it a secret. He’s got lots of questions he wants answering.
“There’s huge consequences of the big actions over Christmas. Caleb is going to be massive.”
There had been a theory Caleb was the son of Chas’ late father Shadrach (Andy Devine) but Marshall has made it clear he is the son of Faith, who died of cancer in October.
But why did she keep her third child a secret and where has he been for all these years?
Whatever the answers are, it is said there are some big scenes ahead in 2023 after Caleb makes his debut.
Fans will recognise the actor behind Caleb from a number of different shows.

But fans will most likely know him for starring as Christopher Mead in BBC’s Waterloo Road.
He was in the school drama for three years before making his exit in 2011.
Talking about playing Caleb in Emmerdale, Ash said: “I’m thrilled to be joining such an iconic show.
“Emmerdale is packed full of fantastic actors and I’m really looking forward to working alongside them.
“Caleb is a fantastically complex character and I can’t wait to get stuck in.”
Emmerdale is available to watch on ITV1 and ITVX.
