Everything We Know About The White Lotus Season 2

The White Lotus will open for a second season.

The HBO social satire took over Twitter this summer, with viewers getting sucked in to the minute dramas and the tragic mystery (who was in the body bag?) among the VIP guests and staff of the titular luxury hotel in Hawaii. Though the show was initially billed as a miniseries, the network announced a season 2 renewal last month.

“The next chapter of The White Lotus leaves Hawaii behind and follows a different group of vacationers as they jet to another White Lotus property and settle in temporarily amongst its inhabitants,” HBO said in a press release.

We now know that the new group of White Lotus guests will include a familiar face. Deadline reports that Jennifer Coolidge, who played VIP mourner and massage enthusiast Tanya McQuoid, is in talks to return for season 2. Sources told the outlet that the Legally Blonde actress is in talks to reprise her role, though she may end up playing a brand-new character.

So what lies ahead for the now-anthology series? In addition to Coolidge’s return, we’re expecting an entirely new cast, a new resort location (still tropical? winter-y?), and more scenes of rich people being messy. Creator Mike White hinted in an Entertainment Weekly interview that the series may move to an international location, partly because of logistics.

“We would go somewhere different because there’s no way we could be able to afford the Four Seasons in Maui, not in a pandemic,” White said. “So yeah, it would have to be The White Lotus: Kyoto or something. Which would be fun too, because we could get into culture clash ideas and stuff like that.”

Imagine, all the discomfort of the resort guests embarrassing themselves in front of the staff, plus a language barrier? We’re already mortified, and excited to tune in.
