GB News to play national anthem daily on both television and radio

GB News has announced it will play God Save The Queen every single day starting from tomorrow (January 18).

The network has confirmed the national anthem will air on GB News Television and GB News Radio at 5.59am.

Editorial director Michael Booker said the move was a ‘welcome addition’ in Queen Elizabeth II’s Jubilee year.

‘We always promised we would celebrate what’s good about our country when we can, and the Queen’s 70-year reign is definitely something worth celebrating,’ he said.

‘We’ve chosen an uplifting instrumental version which, for our television viewers, will feature stunning scenes from across the UK. We think it’s a lovely way to start the day’.

The announcement sparked somewhat of a divisive response on social media, with some thrilled by the patriotic stance.

‘Great idea. Might have to get up early tomorrow then,’ one wrote alongside a Union Jack flag, as another penned: ‘About time someone had a bit of pride in the nation.’

But others weren’t so complimentary. ‘Completely normal island,’ one posted on Twitter.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another said: ‘Jesus Christ someone end this channel.’

Last week, Buckingham Palace unveiled the line-up of celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee for the first time.

Street parties, a concert featuring some of the world’s biggest stars, and a chance to see the Queen’s homes up close are all included in the programme to mark her 70 years on the throne.

Official Jubilee celebrations began last Monday when Fortnum & Mason launched the Platinum Pudding Competition to find a dish to dedicate to the Queen. Recipes will be judged by an expert panel including Dame Mary Berry.
