EastEnders icon Adam Woodyatt and Coronation Street stalwart Simon Gregson are both heading into Gwrych Castle in Thursday’s instalment of I’m A Celebrity. Adam, who stars as Ian Beale, and Steve McDonald star Simon are the two latecomers of the group and will complete the line-up. However, despite his iconic soap status, Adam has revealed he’s in no rush to return to Walford.

Last year, Adam announced he would be taking an extended break from the BBC soap.

Ian was last seen in Walford in January 2021 after discovering Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) had been plotting to kill him.

Speaking about his exit from EastEnders, Adam said: “It will have been a year since I was last in EastEnders by the time I go in.

“I’ve enjoyed my time so much. I am very much enjoying my life and doing things I want to do.”

Last year, Adam announced he would be taking an extended break from the BBC soap.

Ian was last seen in Walford in November 2020 after discovering Sharon Watts (played by Letitia Dean) had been plotting to kill him.

Speaking about his exit from EastEnders, Adam said: “It will have been a year since I was last in EastEnders by the time I go in.

“I’ve enjoyed my time so much. I am very much enjoying my life and doing things I want to do.”

Looking to the future, Adam remained coy on whether he’s planning on reprising his iconic role.

He said: “I am not one to plan anything. I will go with what happens.

“I might take the summer off and go and work at my mate’s restaurant when he does the pop-up stalls at food festivals.

“I did it a couple of times this summer and I enjoyed it. But I am just now really looking forward to doing I’m A Celebrity.

“Programmes like this were a blessed relief during the lockdowns last year and I can’t wait to go in.”

After playing Ian for more than three decades, Adam confessed he’s looking forward to viewers getting to know the real him.

“I’ve known about doing I’m A Celebrity for a long time and I can’t wait to go in now!

“I don’t mind if I am first or last in the Castle – I am just really looking forward to being on the show.

“Why have I finally said yes? Because I am not in EastEnders! That is the honest answer.”

“I am not in contract with the BBC so I can come and do it,” he added.

“Everyone thinks I am Ian Beale and so it’s going to be great to show I am not.”

Meanwhile, David Ginola is bookmakers Betway’s favourite to win I’m A Celeb.

Betway’s Head of PR, Chad Yeomans, said: “Ex-footballer David has been the most popular contestant after just a few days in the Castle, with actor Danny Miller already confessing to having a ‘man crush’ on the Frenchman.

“The 54-year-old has given pep talks, spoken emotionally about cheating death and has also taken his shirt off, much to the delight of Frankie Bridge and the viewers at home!

“Having started Sunday’s opening show at 9/1, Ginola has been very well-backed and is now the 9/4 favourite!

“Radio 1Xtra DJ Snoochie Shy may not have had the biggest profile prior to entering the castle, but she’s rapidly winning viewers over, and is now just 7/1, from 20/1, to be crowned Queen of the Castle.”

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! continues on ITV on Thursday at 9pm.
