Former politician Nigel Farage has been voted out of the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here Jungle in third place this evening.
The 59 year old was told the news by hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly during the live final on Sunday, 10 December.
Hearing the news he said: “Thank you very much,” and to his fellow finalists he added: “Well done boys.”
Leaving I’m A Celebrity after 23 days in camp, Nigel Farage told Ant and Dec: “The legs are a bit weary,” as he tucked into a glass of champagne.
Asked why he took part in the show this year, having been asked before, he said: “I had time to do it and I’m 60 next birthday and going to reach an age where you can’t do it.
“This is very physical, bringing buckets of water, doing the challenges, so now was the right time to do it and I’m very pleased I did. I did my best to show no fear at all in the challenges.”
On whether he was surprised to finish third, he said: “I’m not surprised, I’m absolutely thrilled, not everyone likes the stuff I’ve campaigned for and stood for over the years but we are all entitled to an opinion and I’m a human being like anyone else.
“I hope this programme has shown I’m as human as anyone else.”
Many fans of the show heaped praise on Nigel for the way he came across on the show after he had left the camp.
One person wrote: "Fair play. Whatever his politics, he came across as friendly and generous."
While another said: "Well done @Nigel_Farage you smashed it! #ImACeleb."
A third viewer penned: "Wishing Nigel all the very best, he’s been an amazing campmate and got along well with all of the other campmates! I hope he turns over a new leaf and be a more likeable person! He’s actually a genuine person from all we saw in the #ImACeleb series."
Someone else tweeted: "Congratulations @Nigel_Farage Our King of the Jungle. You absolutely smashed it!"
Nigel leaves behind Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson and boxer Tony Bellew, who are now waiting to find out who the new King of the Jungle is.
Earlier in the episode, Nigel kept a cool head while he was locked in the “panic pit”, an underground metal box filled with snakes, for his final bushtucker trial.
He joked: “Lots of people would like the snake to strangle me, I suppose. Their dream might come true.”
Asked where he was going “in his head”, he said: “I’m thinking about things I’ve done in my life that were worse than this,” adding he was thinking about the plane crash he was in.
Asked if he had dealt with a lot of snakes in his time, he said: “European Parliament was stuffed with them, terrible lot.”
