Lucy Beale star unrecognisable 26 years after EastEnders debut

Casey Anne Rothery looks unrecognisable almost three decades after first playing EastEnders’ Lucy Beale.

The daughter of EastEnders veteran Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), Lucy was played by a total of four actresses during the character’s lifetime.

Casey took over the role from original actress Eva Brittin-Snell in 1996, playing Lucy until 2004.

Melissa Suffield then took the baton, playing a teenage tearaway version of Lucy from 2004 until 2010. Two years after that, the final reincarnation of the character was Hetti Bywater.

Hetti played Lucy until her death in 2014. She had been heading down a dark path after beginning a drug habit, and half-brother Bobby hit his sister over the head with a music box during an argument as he tried to stop her from making ‘everyone unhappy’.

Step-mum Jane arrived and shielded Bobby from the fact that his sister was dead, before taking Lucy’s body to the woods where she was later found by a passer-by.

Almost a year later, actress Hetti reprised the role of Lucy to complete the ‘whodunnit’ storyline which saw Bobby unveiled as her killer.

Since leaving the show as the Lucy of the 90s, Casey hasn’t appeared on television in any further roles.

But she is active on social media, including Instagram where she shares photos from her everyday life.

It’s here that fans have been stunned by the difference between Casey as a child star and as a young woman.

Much like we all do online, Casey shares photos of herself enjoying time with friends, as well as family members.

Meanwhile, her former onscreen father Adam Woodyatt was recently rumoured to be in talks with BBC bosses to make a return as Ian.

Ian departed EastEnders back in January 2021 after being poisoned by Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) over his part in the death of her teenage son Denny (Bleu Landau).

Now, according to The Sun, the BBC are keen to see Adam back on the soap. A source said: ‘Adam was one of the highest earners in EastEnders and there’s no doubt he’d be looking to come back on at least the same amount of money, if not more.

‘But clearly the bosses at EastEnders need to know what’s happening.’

As yet, the BBC have not commented when approached by Metro.co.uk.
