NCIS season 19 will premiere on September 20 on CBS with huge changes in store for the cast with regulars leaving and new members joining. Tony Dinozzo (played by Michael Weatherly) is reported to be returning but will his daughter Tali join him?
Will Ziva David’s daughter Tali return in season 19?
During season 11, Ziva (Cote de Pablo) made the decision to move back to Israel, leaving Tony heartbroken by the news she was leaving.
Tony managed to push through the pain and carry on helping the NCIS team, for a while.
He believed Ziva and Tali had died in a car accident, but all that changed when they miraculously returned during season 17.
Together, they decided to make the move to Paris, seeking a fresh start after so many years in the NCIS team.
Recently rumours suggest they could be returning and if they do it is more than likely Tali will be joining them.
Tali’s return relies on Tony and Ziva’s future in the series as the characters are yet to make an appearance following their season 17 exit.
Last year, viewers were hoping to see Tony and fan-favourite Ziva come back in season 18, but hopes were dashed when producers Frank Cardea and Steve Binder ruled out their comeback.
Speaking to CarterMatt, Cardea explained: “We also have a compressed season this year. CBS is cutting back on their episode orders because we got such a late start.
“We’re doing a third fewer episodes than we normally would in a non-COVID year.”
The reason they couldn’t come back in season 18 was simply due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with restrictions ruling out any hope for cameos and crossovers.
However, since season 18, restrictions have continued to be eased just in time for the filming of the new series.
This has renewed hope Tony, Ziva, and Tali will be coming back to the show, especially after a recent post by Weatherly.
In a Twitter post, Weatherly shared an image of him on the NCIS set which he captioned: “#ncis Camera is King.”
While nothing is confirmed, it seems likely if Tony is coming back to the NCIS team, he will bring his daughter along with him.
Fans also agree, with many of them commenting on the post with their hopes all three will be coming back to the show.
One fan posted: “Now you have them all planning your return. LOL. Of course, it would be great to see a reunion with Ziva and Tali.” (sic)
Another added: “He needs to show up with Ziva!”
A third wrote: “Is Tony making an appearance?!?! What’re you doing to us sir?!?!”
Nothing is confirmed by CBS and currently, there is only speculation from Weatherly’s post to go on.
It is clear fans are hoping for their return and now Agent Gibbs (Mark Harmon) is easing out of the show, there is a new space to fill on the team.
Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) also left the show after the end of season 18, making Ziva and Tony’s return more likely.
Tali would likely be played by a new young actress since it has been a couple of years since she was last seen.
NCIS season 19 will premiere on September 20 on CBS.
