Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs returns for final series
Audiences tuning in to watch the latest episode of Paul O’Grady’s For the Love of Dogs were left in floods of tears over some upsetting scenes on the programme last night (April 27).
Season 11 is currently airing on ITV1 and ITVX weekly on Thursdays with the eight-part series in the middle of its run.
The most recent episode shone a spotlight on a spaniel called Murphy, who was at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
In heartbreaking scenes, Paul said: “Murphy was found tied up a by a member of the public just two days ago. He’s one of the most withdrawn dogs that I have ever seen.”
Paul went down to see Murphy, who was lying on his bed looking incredibly sad and despondent.
Murphy was just two years old with Paul telling viewers the young canine “should be bounding around the place” but the level of his abuse had left in such a state.
Paul told viewers: “This is criminal, there’s no excuse, no excuse whatsoever, and he must be in agony as he’s got scabies and mange. Well, this is tragic. It’s like all the light has been taken out of him.”
Paul admitted it was “very distressing” and “tragic” to see Murphy in such a way and said the road to recovery would start with getting the canine to build up trust with humans again after suffering such unimaginable abuse.
Later in the show, Paul went off to get a dog bowl and offered him food with the help of an animal behaviourist.
