Following his abrupt departure from Good Morning Britain, Piers Morgan’s former co-host Susanna Reid found herself fronting Wednesday’s episode alongside Ranvir Singh. Piers’ exit came after he hit headlines for controversial comments regarding Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey and regulator Ofcom received upwards of 40,000 complaints. But after bringing up his departure as part of today’s ITV headlines, Ranvir expressed her concern for her co-star.

As GMB returned from one of its ad breaks, Susanna delivered the latest headlines to ITV viewers.

Of course, Piers’ name was involved as Susanna revealed he’d be subject to an Ofcom investigation as a result of the complaints.

But before moving on with the show, Susanna commented things were going to be “very different” now her co-host of five years was gone.

Ranvir spotted Susanna may have needed a boost following the news and turned to her co-host to ask: “Are you alright?”

Susanna took a moment but confirmed she was fine before Ranvir continued: “It’s a big thing, isn’t it? You know, it was a shock and it sort of happened,

“And a lot of people will feel very different things about it. Some people will be absolutely gutted this morning because they love the show and loved him in it.

“Lots of people will say it’s about time – he annoyed a lot of people and lots of people love him.”

Susanna weighed in: “His departure is one of the reverberations that has come from this bombshell Harry and Meghan interview.”

Earlier in the show and just moments after taking her seat on the GMB table, Susanna tried to keep her composure as she spoke about her co-host’s exit head-on.

She said: “A number of people will, of course, know the news and many of you will not and will be surprised that Piers Morgan is not here this morning.

“Now, Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the things that viewers loved about the programme.

“He is, without a doubt, an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster. He has many critics and he has many fans.

“You will know I disagreed with him about Meghan’s interview, he himself clarified his comments about her mental health on [Tuesday’s] show.

“There are many voices on Good Morning Britain and everyone has their say but now Piers has decided to leave the programme.”

Susanna continued: “Some of you may cheer and others will boo. He has been my presenting partner, Monday to Wednesday, for more than five years,

“And during Brexit and the pandemic and other issues, he has been a voice for many of you and a voice many of you have rallied against.

“It is certainly going to be very different but shows go on and so on we go.”

Ranvir stepped in on Wednesday’s episode but warned fans not “read into” her appearance meaning she was permanently replacing Piers.

ITV is yet to reveal who will take the reins alongside Susanna following Piers’ departure.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
