BAFTAS: Rob and Romesh mock Holly and Phil with joke
Tom Davis and Romesh Ranganathan are both superfans of the Japanese gameshow Takeshi’s Castle which is landing on Prime Video later this month after years off the screen.
The funny duo have opened up with Express.co.uk about stepping into the shoes of Craig Charles to commentate on the iconic series.
Reflecting on why he is captivated by the programme, Romesh shared: “I think it’s just sort of enjoyable chaos.
“I mean, and I sort of really enjoy watching multiple people being humiliated and sort of just losing their dignity.
“I think it’s quite addictive and, you know, if you like people being embarrassed to show the kids, I don’t think there is a better show in terms of pure humiliation.”

The 45-year-old comedian also felt privileged to be able to work on the show alongside his “best friend” Tom, 44.
Romesh expanded: “Tom, and I do a podcast together where we just literally press record and see what happens.
“So to actually be asked to talk, when there is something to talk about, actually felt like, infinitely easier.”
Romesh went on to speak about Craig who commentated on the show between 2002 and 2004.

After praising Craig, he joked: “If you liked the way that Craig did it just go back and watch that.
“The worst thing we could do is try and do an impression of [him], because that wouldn’t be doing ourselves any favours.”
Romesh said he and Tom wanted to “do it our own way and bring our own flavour to it” after landing the narrating gig.
The reboot captures the essence of 1980’s mayhem and viewers will see more than 100 contestants attempting to storm the impenetrable castle.
Similar to the original series, the contestants must take on bizarre physical challenges and fight off guards to potentially bank one million yen.
Romesh added: “Tom and I were so excited to be asked to do it. And also on top of that, the reaction online to it coming back has been amazing.”
The reboot of Takeshi’s Castle lands on Prime Video on August 30.
