Samantha Womack has addressed a return for her character Ronnie Mitchell on EastEnders – almost six years since she drowned trying to save her sister, Roxy, who also perished.
The 50 year old actress, who recently got the all-clear from breast cancer, appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Wednesday where she discussed her former co-star Rita Simons' recent return to the soap as Roxy – albeit in her daughter Amy's imagination.
Rita recently appeared on GMB, where she said: "All I can say is I've left it so the fans finally understand Roxy may not be dead so in the future who knows, but right now, I'm really having a lovely time, not there, and potentially going somewhere else."
When asked about Rita's comments that there could possibly be a comeback on the square, Samantha didn't rule out a return to the show.
Speaking to Ed Balls and Susanna Reid, Samantha said: "I love her [Rita's] positivity.
"We were seen at the end of the episode floating quite lifelessly in the pool.
"But I like her positivity."
Showing her support for her on-screen sister, Samantha said she was "definitely going to watch" Rita's EastEnders comeback.
She explained: "I'm in Spain at the moment and my VPN wasn't working, but I definitely want to watch it and catch up on it as I'm sure it was amazing."
Samantha and Rita share a close bond, which comes as no surprise as they starred alongside each other as the Mitchell sisters for a decade, after first arriving onto Albert Square in 2007.
They died together in shocking and heartbreaking scenes for New Year's Day in 2017, after Roxy jumped into the pool whilst drunk, the night before Ronnie's wedding to Jack.
Ronnie jumped in to try and save her sister, but her wedding dress pulled her down, and both of them died.
Rita recently revealed that she had made the difficult decision to have a hysterectomy, after years of suffering, but she said she was inspired by her best friend Samantha to put her health first, after seeing what she' "been through" on her journey with breast cancer.
“I just want to be happy and healthy, especially when you look at what Sam’s been through,” Rita told OK!.
“Health is so important when you see your best friend going through what she’s going through. We’ve all got to put it first. I don’t need a stadium of people to clap at me and tell me I’m wonderful – I can get that at home.”
In August 2022, Samantha announced that she had breast cancer. It came in the wake of Olivia Newton-John’s passing – the Grease legend having battled with the disease for 30 years.
In December, Samantha celebrated her 50th birthday and got the incredible news that she is cancer-free.
After the brilliant news, Samantha told us: “I just feel really thankful and really grateful that I caught it when I did.”
“I feel very thankful for my life. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s almost like I can see the beauty in everything now – like everything feels special. I keep bursting into tears, because I’m happy."
