The Bay’s third series was a major change for the ITV drama after its lead character, family liaison officer DS Lisa Armstrong (played by Morven Christie), left for good with DS Jenn Townsend (Marsha Thomason) taking her place. This time around, the body found was that of aspiring boxer Saif Rahman with the detectives scratching their heads at who the killer could be. Here’s a lowdown on what happened in the final episode of The Bay season three.

What happened at the end of The Bay season 3?

Jenn and Chris are at a crossroads

Chris (Barry Sloane) was waking up on the sofa after a night of rowing with Jenn.

His daughter Erin (Georgia Scholes) hadn’t been very nice to Jenn’s son Conor (David Carpenter) which partly caused the arguing in the first place.

The tension led the family liaison officer to believe they had moved in together far too quickly and suggested she and the children move out.

While fans expected Erin to be delighted with this outcome, she looked guilty for causing this uproar.

An arrest is made

Mariam Rahman (Rina Mahoney) asks Jenn to go to the gym to retrieve some of her son’s belongings as Vinnie (Gary Lewis) is getting ready to close it for good.

It is here that she sees various trophies, many of which belonged to fellow boxer Ritchie (Paddy Rowan) but before Saif joined the club.

Their friendship went on to become a rivalry as Ritchie was jealous of the attention Saif was getting.

He was later arrested as his DNA matched the blood found inside the victim’s phone.

Ritchie continued to deny killing him but refused to give any further details on what happened.

Erin helps the case

When Jenn returned home, she asked Erin for some help by looking through a list of people who attended Saif’s funeral to see if there was anyone there who Ritchie may be protecting.

But instead, Erin spotted someone she didn’t expect to go, Kyle (Joel Phillimore), the brother of Saif’s girlfriend and her friend Molly (Isabel Caswell).

Saif and Kyle never got on, despite him telling the police that they were friends.

When she visits Kyle’s family car repair garage, Jenn looks for the car seen in the CCTV footage after Saif’s death.

It is here that she finds that the mystery car was there, after scratching some of the paintwork off a newly painted red BMW.

The killer is caught

When Kyle is taken into custody, the truth finally comes out about the night of Saif’s death.

Ritchie was fed up with Saif being treated better than anyone else at the gym and so asked his girlfriend Shirin (Deepica Stephen) to lure him to the back entrance to teach him a lesson.

A fight broke out between Saif and Ritchie which is how the latter’s blood got into the victim’s phone.

Saif started to get the upper hand and this is when Kyle, who was encouraging Ritchie from the sidelines, stepped in and whacked him over the head with some piping.

He continued to beat him even after Ritchie ran off in horror and called his dad to help him dispose of the body.

Ritchie, Kyle and Shirin were all charged with murder while Kyle’s dad was charged with aiding and abetting for his role of moving Saif’s body.

Order is restored at home

When Jenn returns home, she sees that Erin apologises to Conor for her behaviour.

As they watch how their children are making up, Jenn and Chris agree to continue living together.

The finale ends with the entire family going out for dinner on the seafront.

The Bay is available to watch on ITV Hub.
