The BBC valuation show normally airs every weekday, but Bargain Hunt will be off-air this week in favour of the Winter Olympics coverage. The shake-up, which was also in place last week, has left viewers angered and several have taken to social media to complain about the absence of the daytime staple. A few have blamed the broadcaster for the continuous cancellations and questioned why the sporting event gets priority.
Informing its 23,000 Twitter followers, the show’s official social media account announced the rescheduling on Monday.
A post read: “#BBCBargainHunt’ers! Announcement! Due to the winter Olympics, new episodes will not air on @BBCOne this week but rest assured we will have repeats on @BBCTwo & you can always catch up and have your fix @BBCiPlayer.”
After a similar statement last week, fans weren’t pleased to hear they wouldn’t be getting their new dose of Bargain Hunt.
Twitter user PLorna Lake wrote: “I’m cross about this! BBC4 sits idle all day while BBC1 & BBC2 is totally disrupted – makes no sense to me!
“There are thousands of people wanting to see continuous coverage of the Olympics and they have to channel-hop while we lose out completely! Bonkers!” (sic)
Marilyn Edwards fumed: “@BBCBargainHunt and @BBCiPlayer This is typical BBC and why it gets so much bad press.
“W1A satirical series was so spot on. How much has this BBC Olympics shindig cost and how many staff on jollies?
“BBC SHOULD GET SUBSCRIPTION SPORTS CHANNEL. And give us back some new Bargain Hunts, not constant repeats!!!”
“Who the f*** cancelled bargain hunt, I will have their head,” @joshblanchard08 added.
“@BBCBargainHunt oh dear the Winter Olympics are messing with our routines.
“We keep missing Bargain Hunt because they are changing times. We like the Olympics but really it’s causing mayhem in our house,” Christine Dobson admitted.
Bargain Hunt sees teams of amateur collectors trying to bag the best items for auction.
Managed by one of the several experts on the show, favourites such as Natasha Raskin Sharp and Eric Knowles have emerged from the show.
Despite offering her expertise regularly, Natasha recently opened up about why she only just created an Instagram account for fans to get more of an insight into her career.
The 36-year-old of Scottish presenter now shares snippets on the social media app, which she only started last month.
During her late-night radio show on January 20, Natasha revealed the reason why she set up an account just before she went live on air.
Announcing she finally had an account, she added: “And just for good measure, as I was told it was weird I didn’t have one, I started an Instagram account a few hours ago, so that’s just my name, Natasha Raskin Sharp.”
Natasha fronts the series along with other experts, and fans of the long-running series will know it is up to the contestants to choose whether or not to take on the advice given by their expert.
Natasha has been a keen fan of vintage items and collectables from a very young age.
She previously said her dad, Scottish artist Phillip Raskin, was the person who got her interested in antiques.
Bargain Hunt usually airs on weekdays at 4.30pm on BBC iPlayer.
