Virgin River might look like a light-hearted romantic story on the surface, but the Netflix series which is based on Robyn Carr’s novels is full of a ton of drama. Much of the show focuses on Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), who moves to Virgin River for a fresh start after a series of tragedies. Amid her healing, she falls for Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), a former Marine and bar owner.
Jack has his own share of drama. At the end of the second season, he was shot in his bar and left for dead. All eyes have been on Dan Brady (Ben Hollingsworth), a retired Marine and former friend of Jack’s. However, there are clues that Jack’s friend, Detective Mike Valenzuela (Marco Grazzini) might not be a good guy either.
Brady has been arrested for shooting Jack on ‘Virgin River’
It’s no secret that retired Marines Brady and Jack have not been seeing eye-to-eye. Though Brady initially worked at Jack’s bar after moving to Virgin River, things changed when he became enticed with the fast money that Virgin River drug kingpin, Calvin (David Cubit) could provide.
This caused a major fracture between Brady and Jack and when Jack was found bleeding from a gunshot wound in his bar, many Virgin River residents looked toward Brady. Then at the end of the third season, Brady was arrested by Mike and his team after the gun that was used to shoot Jack was found in his car.
However, after seeing a softer side of Brady, especially amid his romance with Jack’s sister Brie (Zibby Allen), no one is convinced Virgin River’s black sheep actually pulled the trigger. Not even Henderson is convinced Brady would turn the gun on his character.
“I’m hoping that there’s room for healing around the Brady-Jack relationship at some point,” he told TV Insider. “There’s a brotherly love there and I think the kind of bond that can only exist between people who were in war zones together. It’s such an intense situation and that sense of connectedness [and] loyalty is very, very deep. It’d be nice to maybe see some of that healed. That would be especially difficult if Brady had been the one to try to kill Jack.”
Every clue that Mike is a bad guy on ‘Virgin River’
Instead, from where we’re sitting it looks like Mike who has access to both Jack and Brady had something to do with Jack’s shooting. The hot-tempered detective seemingly appeared in Virgin River out of nowhere, and it’s clear that he’s not been a fan of Brady since their days in the Marines. However, it also seems that Brady is aware of a dark secret that Mike is hiding.
Moreover, Mike also has a thing for Brie and he seems disgusted that she fell for Brady instead. As he arrested Brady he made sure to gloat to Brie. “Brie, if you wanna stick around, it’s your call,” he said gleefully. “But if you want my opinion, you’re wasting your time. You could do a whole lot better.”
Interestingly enough, we don’t think that Mike actually pulled the trigger. Just before Jack was shot, he was seen on the phone with Mike who was clear across town at the police station. However, that doesn’t mean that Mike wasn’t involved.
‘Virgin River’ fans will be shocked when Jack’s shooter is revealed
Virgin River showrunner Sue Tenney has promised fans that they will know the identity of Jack’s shooter by the end of the Virgin River Season 4 finale and apparently we’re in for a wild ride.
“The audience will be genuinely surprised at who’s behind all of it,” she told TV Insider.
