‘I would make a great president’: Arnold Schwarzenegger sings own praises as he takes a swipe at possibility of a re-run presidential election between Biden, 80 and Trump, 77, saying: ‘I hope America finds some really young blood’

Arnold Schwarzenegger, 76, has suggested that he would make a ‘great’ president as he criticised the lack of youth in America’s presidential race.

The Terminator star-turned-politician was clearly uninspired by today’s political offering, as the he expressed his regret that his origins rules him out of the race before it has started.

With another election pitting Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who have a combined age of 157, very much on the cards, the actor added: ‘I just hope that America finds some really young blood.’

The Austria-born Hollywood icon admitted, however, that he could not complain about his disqualification from the position, as ‘everything I’ve accomplished was because of America’.

‘I feel like I would make a great president,’ he told BBC News.

‘But I feel that, at the same time, everything I’ve accomplished was because of America.

‘America gave me so many opportunities and the American people were so embracive, and they just received me with open arms. 

‘There was no-one there that stopped me from my success. So the only thing that I can’t do, which is run for president, I’m not going to complain about that.’

The constitution requires that the President is a natural-born citizen of the United States, although the 76-year-old did not rule out that changing.

At the same time, though, he ruled out the possibility of him going on a lone Terminator-esque mission to amend that for his own benefit. 

Moreover, he questioned why politicians running for the country’s top job were in their seventies and eighties rather than 30 to 40 years younger. 

However, the odds predict that the bodybuilder will be disappointed, with both Biden and Trump strong favourites to lead their respective parties into the next election.

Our DailyMail.com/JL Partners national 2024 poll announced last month suggest that Trump has overtaken Biden in the public’s opinion – he holds a one-point lead after overturning June’s two-point deficit.

That rise is fueled by independent voters switching sides and by gains among graduates, who provide the bulk of support for Biden. 

However, the race remains incredibly tight. And the poll of 1,000 likely voters, conducted by J.L. Partners, carries a 3.1-point margin of error. 

Schwarzenegger has his own political history as governor of California from 2003 to 2011, and has given advice on how to make the most of your life and find your purpose in a new book – Be Useful: Seven Tools For Life.

According to a description of the book on Amazon, the book details ‘the seven rules to follow to realize your true purpose in life – distilled by Arnold Schwarzenegger from his own journey of ceaseless reinvention and extraordinary achievement, and available for absolutely anyone.’ 

He told People earlier this month that he learned much about the craft of acting through his work alongside Oscar winners Sally Field and Jeff Bridges in the 1976 film Stay Hungry.

Arnold said that it ‘was absolute heaven to me to watch them perform, how smooth they were and how much I had to grow’ as an actor.

He added that the key was to ‘be natural’ and ‘not to act,’ saying: ‘It’s what made Sally Field start falling into tears and crying and throwing fits. It was really her.’

The former bodybuilder has been promoting his new book Be Useful: Seven Tools For Life

However, Schwarzenegger said that he idolized a different Oscar winner – Clint Eastwood – ‘because he was kind of Mr. Cool.

‘His approach of not being noisy, that he was able to listen, I always loved that,’ he continued, ‘because I always thought that there’s something to be said about listening.’

The book description also referenced the actor’s ‘stratospheric success’ in multiple fields: bodybuilding, Hollywood and politics.

‘This did not happen by accident,’ it said, but rather it ‘happened as part of a process.

‘As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

‘As Arnold conquered every realm he entered, he kept his father’s adage close to his heart.’
