FIERY French fishermen held up Christmas goods bound for Britain yesterday as they blockaded the Channel Tunnel and Calais port.
Mutinous skippers set up flaming barricades on roads and besieged the harbour mouth with boats in a row over access to our waters.
Two ferries carrying trucks and passengers were delayed and huge backlogs of lorries built up outside the French end of the Channel.
French union baron Olivier Lepretre said the protest — which lasted a few hours — was a “warning shot” to the UK to cough up more fishing licences.
He fumed: “If not, we will cut their access. This is a symbolic action but if it continues we will show more teeth.”
French captains also blockaded the ports of Saint-Malo and Ouistreham to prevent trawlers from the UK and Jersey landing catches.
No 10 said yesterday that the French must ensure the free flow of traffic and trade.
EU and UK negotiators have been locked in daily talks over post-Brexit fishing rights.
Brussels says “progress is too slow” and has set a December 10 deadline for a deal on licences.
