A DPD driver who was killed in Shrewsbury was reportedly ambushed by a gang of attackers armed with machetes.
The 23-year-old had been a passenger in the delivery van when he "suffered a slash wound" at around 1.05pm on Monday.
Emergency services scrambled to the scene in Castle Foregate – but were unable to save the young man.
A murder investigation has been launched and four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
West Mercia Police are now hunting a white Mercedes or grey Audi thought to be connected to the attack.
Residents have now told of their horror after witnessing the aftermath of the brutal attack.

One told MailOnline: “I saw four men, carrying a variety of weapons, jump into the Audi and two others get into the front of a white Mercedes.
“None of them looked as though they had stolen anything.
"They didn't seem to be carrying any parcels from the van. They just had weapons which looked to be a machete, baseball bat and what appeared to be some sort of shovel.
“The cars did a three-wheel turn and they sped off. One of the men shouted something before they escaped but I couldn't hear what they said.

“But there were six of them and the police only have four suspects in custody. There must at least be two others unaccounted for.”
Another local told the Mirror: “I got back home ten minutes after it happened and saw the man's body covered by a sheet in the street. My first concern was for my neighbours, young families were locking themselves in their homes until we knew what had happened.
“It's awful that something this tragic can happen on our wonderful little estate.”
DPD said: "We can confirm that a two-person DPD crew was involved in an incident on Berwick Avenue in Shrewsbury yesterday afternoon.
"Sadly one of the two individuals delivering parcels was attacked and subsequently died.
"We are working closely with the police investigation team, but all our thoughts are with the victim's family at this tragic time."
Chief Inspector Mark Reilly said: “A murder investigation, led by a senior investigating officer, has been launched in relation to the attack in Coton Hill yesterday, with four people currently in police custody.
“Patrols have been increased throughout the town to offer reassurance to the local community and I would urge anyone who is concerned to speak to an officer on patrol.
"I'd like to take the opportunity to thank the public for your understanding and continued support, it’s not something we take for granted and very much appreciate.”
