Broadcaster David Dimbleby yesterday ruled himself out of the running to become the new chairman of the BBC following the resignation of Richard Sharp.
Dimbleby, 84, has tried twice to secure the position in the past. But he told Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘I am now focusing on broadcasting, which has always been my greatest pleasure. So I shall carry on doing that.
‘No, I won’t apply. If asked to do it I will say, ”No, thank you very much, not this time around.” ‘
Mr Dimbleby also claimed the position should no longer be decided by the Prime Minister.
